    • Methods and systems for intelligent signaling-router-based surveillance are disclosed. A surveillance and signaling router receives call signaling messages, identifies call signaling messages associated with user under surveillance and determines a surveillance type for the call signaling messages. If the surveillance type is content-related, the surveillance and signaling router forwards the message to a call server. The call server replaces parameters in the message and in subsequent message so that the call is transparently set up trough a media proxy server. The media proxy server copies the media stream to a delivery function. If the surveillance type is non-content-related, the surveillance and signaling router sends a copy of the message or information extracted from the message to an external device.

    • The aim of the invention is to test the functionality of a switching center (VST) of a telecommunications network to be tested, in which the exchange of useful information of the transport connections to a respectively connected switching center is carried out via intermediate interfaces (NK1, NK2), and in which the exchange of signaling messages for controlling the transport connections and for managing the intermediate interfaces (NK1, NK2) is carried out via signaling interfaces (SSS). To this end, originating signaling messages in which the switching center (VST) is specified as the originating center are received. Said signaling messages are transmitted by the switching station (VST). The originating signaling messages are respectively converted according to a predetermined instruction into signaling messages, in which the switching center (VST) is specified as the destination point, and the signaling messages which are converted in such a manner are transmitted to the switching center (VST). The intermediate interfaces (NK1, NK2) are advantageously looped through in accordance with the switching centers assigned to one another in the converted messages. The functions for testing can be internally carried out in a switching center (VST) or in a device (CLG) for testing the functionality of the switching center.

    • An Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)-based distributed virtual tandem switching system is provided in which a network of ATM-based devices is combined to create a distributed virtual tandem switch. The system includes an ATM switching network that dynamically sets up individual switched virtual connections. The system also includes a trunk interworking function (T-IWF) device and a centralized control and signaling interworking function (CS-IWF) device. The trunk interworking function device converts end office voice trunks from TDM channels to ATM cells by employing a structured circuit emulation service. The centralized control and signaling interworking function device performs call control functions and interfaces narrowband signaling and broadband signaling for call processing and control within the ATM switching network. Consequently, the ATM based distributed virtual tandem switching system replaces a standard tandem switch in the PSTN.
