    • An electrochemical cell is disclosed. The cell comprises a substrate with an elongate channel formed therein; first and second electrodes extending longitudinally in the channel and disposed to opposite sides of the channel; and three fluid ports at each end of the channel for ingress and egress of respective fluids, wherein three fluids entering into the channel through respective fluid ports at one end flow through the channel in parallel laminar streams and exit the channel through the respective ports at the other end. One of the fluids is disposed between the other two fluids in the channel, and facilitates diffusion of ions to and from those other two fluids. One or more of the cells may be used as part of a flow battery. Also described is a method for manufacturing the electrochemical cell. The battery may be used to power an electric vehicle.

    • A redox flow battery includes a plurality of cells electrically connected in series between two end terminals of the battery composed of elements all of a certain active area stackable in a filter-press arrangement. Positive and negative electrolyte solutions flow in parallel and/or in cascade, respectively through positive electrolyte flow compartments and through negative electrolyte flow compartments of the cells. The cells are filter-press stackable multi-compartment cell modules comprising monopolar electrodes, each module composed of a certain even integer number n+1 of flow compartments alternately for said positive electrolyte solution and for said negative electrolyte solution separated by an odd integer number n of perm-ionic membrane separators, and alternately housing a positive and a negative electrode. The redox flow battery has a plurality of intermediate voltage taps in the form of externally protruding tabs of said electrodes. Cell area partializing switches are controlled for connecting in common a selectable number of either positive or negative electrodes composing a cell module.

    • The inventive combustion cell module comprises at least two rectangular combustion cells each of them containing an anode provided with a current collector and an isolating frame arranged along the periphery of the anode and forming the anode chamber and an electrolytic chamber formed by the isolating frame and arranged between the anode and cathode. The isolating frames are provided on the periphery thereof with holes for supplying and evacuating hydrogen, oxygen/air and electrolyte and with channels connecting said holes to corresponding chambers. The holes and channels are disposed on the top and/ or lower sides of the isolating frames. The current collectors are projected outside the combustion cells through the lateral sides of the isolating frames. The holes for supplying and evacuating oxygen towards the anode chambers are disposed on the top side of the isolating frames. The holes for supplying oxygen/air to the cathode chambers are disposed on the top side of the frame, the holes for evacuating oxygen/air are disposed on the lower side of the isolating frames.

    • In a gas diffusion electrode the electrolyte must penetrate the pares of the electrode structure to a certain extent to establish the optimum interface between gas and liquid electrolyte, but it should not reach the gas-side of the electrodes. The best equilibrium of the so-called three phase zone (porous current collector-reaction gas-liquid electrolyte) is achieved by adequate wetproofing the porous structure with a polymeric substance as repellency agent. The polymeric substance serves also as a binder. During operation of the electrodes, the wetproofing material may lose its hydrophobicity for various reasons and the result is a penetration into the pores structures, reducing the interface between liquid and gas, noticed by a loss of performance. By adding small amounts of wetproofing agents to the gases supplied to the electrodes, the original three-phase condition is maintained, or, if it is already partially degenerated, means and methods for its re-establishment are described. The invention claims substances and techniques for such maintenance and regeneration processes.
