    • Auxiliary braking system for vehicle wheels, which is composed of two sections, a tyre section and a rim section. The tyre section comprises the tyre (1) of a wheel, a metallic cylinder (2) adjacent to the tyre, the first part (5) of a clutching system and a brake disk (10). The rim section comprises the second part (6, 7) of the clutching system, the interior of rim (4) and the remaining parts rotating with it (i.e. drive shafts etc). The wheel section and the rim section are connected by a roller bearing (3) and can be interlocked by the clutching system. When interlocked by the clutching system, the two sections of the wheel rotate as a single body, allowing thus normal movement of the vehicle. When the clutching system is declutched, the tyre section can be braked with the brake disk, while the rim section is rotating freely so that its rotational kinetic energy does not affect the kinetic energy of the wheel and thus enables the vehicle to be retarded faster.

    • A clutch brake (30) is provided that includes a brake housing (44) adapted to be non-movably secured relative to a driveline master clutch (34). The brake housing (44) includes a through-hole (46) sized to allow passage of a shaft (38) and at least one source of magnetic flux (48). The clutch brake (30) also includes an armature (50) secured for rotation with the shaft (38) and positioned axially adjacent the brake housing (44) in a disengaged state. At least a portion of the armature (50) is adapted to move axially on the shaft (38) in the presence of magnetic flux (53) to contact the brake housing (44) in an engaged state and inhibit rotation of the armature (50) and the shaft (38).

    • A clutch brake assembly (10) includes a clutch (12) and a transmission shaft (16) for transmitting rotational motion from the clutch to the transmission (14). A brake disc (18) is rotatably driven by and slideably disposed on the transmission shaft. A clutch release member (20) is also slideably disposed on the shaft. Brake pads (30, 36) are non-rotatably and removably attached to the release member and a bearing retainer (26) on the transmission for dissipating braking energy. Each of the brake pads includes a backing plate (32, 38) and friction material (34, 40) secured to the backing plate. During operation, the release member frictionally sandwiches the brake disc between the release member and the bearing retainer for reducing rotation of the shaft. The inventive brake pads are configured to facilitate replacement of the pads without disconnection of the transmission.

    • A geared steering clutch mechanism (18) for use in a vehicle having left and right side propelling devices (11, 12), such as tracks, a power drive (16), and a final drive (15) connecting the power drive to the respective left and right propelling devices. The final drive may be a multispeed drive so that the use of the clutch mechanism provides a two-time multiplication of the number of available output speeds as a function of the selective operation of the clutches. The speed reduction gear assembly may include a planetary gear (56) in meshing engagement with a sun gear (55) connected to the second clutch.     • A stop mechanism for a drive system includes a one-way clutch, a brake, a stop feature, and a linkage. The one-way clutch couples with a drive shaft of the system when the drive shaft is rotating in a first direction but not in an opposite direction. The brake is connected to the drive shaft through the first one-way clutch and is operable to stop drive shaft rotation in the first direction. The stop feature is carried by an output element driven by the drive shaft and actuates the linkage to operate the first brake when the output element reaches a predetermined limit position when moving in a direction corresponding to the first drive direction of the drive shaft. A bidirectional stop mechanism is provided by adding a second one-way clutch, a second brake, and a second stop feature arranged to act in the opposite rotational direction of the drive shaft.
