    • A window assembly (60) is provided for use at a downhole location in a first wellbore (30) to control access to or allow isolation of a second wellbore (40) extending from the first wellbore. The window assembly is included as an integral part of a production tubing string disposed within the first wellbore. A slot (70) is formed in the window assembly. The window assembly is preferably installed at a downhole location aligned to an opening from the first wellbore into the second wellbore whereby well tools (24) may move between the longitudinal bore of the window assembly and the second wellbore. Multiple guide surfaces are provided in the slot to direct movement of tools between the longitudinal bore and the window assembly and the second wellbore or vice versa. One of the guide surfaces on the slot preferably is formed with approximately the same angle at which the second wellbore intersects the first wellbore.

    • A method includes conveying a whipstock and a latch anchor into a parent wellbore, the latch anchor being attached to the whipstock at a releasable connection and the parent wellbore being lined with casing that includes a latch coupling. The latch anchor is secured to the latch coupling and the whipstock is then separated from the latch anchor at the releasable connection and thereby exposing a portion of the releasable connection. The whipstock is then removed from the parent wellbore and a completion deflector is subsequently conveyed into the parent wellbore in combination with lateral tubing (with or without a multilateral junction positioned thereabove), and the completion deflector is attached to the latch coupling at the releasable connection. The lateral tubing (with or without multilateral junction positioned thereabove) is then installed to correct depth.

    • A downhole tool for use in a multilateral wellbore (16) includes a guide member (20) on one end that selectively projects into a designated wellbore, where the designated wellbore can be a motherbore (12) or a lateral wellbore (16). Pistons are set radially in a body (22) of the tool that selectively push against an end of the guide member (20) to pivot it into a designated orientation to guide the tool into the designated wellbore. The pistons are hydraulically actuated when probes that are on sides of the tool body (22) extend outward into contact with a lateral wellbore (16). The probes block hydraulic flow when retracted, but when deployed outward they allow fluid communication to push the pistons against the guide member (20).

    • An apparatus and method to complete a lateral wellbore that can be utilized for existing or new wells. The apparatus can be set in tension with positive confirmation on surface of correct orientation and position. Additionally, the apparatus does not restrict the internal diameter of the liner or the central wellbore and permits full access to both the lateral and the primary wellbore below the junction. The invention includes a tie back assembly (140) disposed at an upper end of a liner string (135). The tie back assembly (140) includes a hanger (150), a packer (145) and a tubular housing (175). The housing includes a liner window (155) formed in a wall thereof to permit access to the lower primary wellbore. An inner tube (185) is disposed within the housing and includes a key (180) disposed on an outer surface for alignment with a window (105) formed in a wall of the casing and a no-go obstruction (190) with is constructed and arranged to contact a lower portion of the casing window to axially locate the tie back assembly in the primary wellbore.
