    • An apparatus for converting solid waste. The apparatus includes a container at least partially filled with a solution. A cathode and an anode are disposed in the container and at least partially submerged in the solution. The container further includes an oxygen supply and an opening in the container for receiving waste material into the solution near the anode. The anode and cathode are electrically coupled by an electrically conductive path. Oxygen molecules are reduced at the cathode whereby electrons are added to the oxygen molecules in the solution so that, together with H+ ions, water is formed. Electrons take part in the dissociation of the waste material in the solution and are accepted at the anode, hi addition, chemical reactions on the electrode surface occur. The electrons then move to the cathode through the electrically conductive path, producing an electric current between the anode and cathode.
