摘要： The present invention provides apparatus and methods for treating vascular conditions, and in particular, hardened or fibrous material in a stenosis. In a first embodiment, the apparatus comprises a catheter (20) having proximal and distal regions and a plurality of balloons segments (24-27) disposed on the distal region at intervals about a circumference of the catheter. A first set of opposing balloon segments are configured to be inflated at substantially the same time to apply a first pressure on the vascular condition, and then a second set of opposing balloon segments are configured to be inflated at substantially the same time to apply a second pressure on the vascular condition. The plurality of balloon segments may be formed by taking one length of balloon material and affixing the material to an outer surface of the catheter at a plurality of segment dividing locations to separate adjacent balloon segments, or alternatively, by providing multiple separate balloon materials.

摘要： A method and apparatus for uncoupling a wire guide from and elongate medical device comprising a catheter shaft having a wire guide lumen extending there through, wherein the material surrounding the wire guide lumen is selected or adapted to facilitate splittability for removal of the wire guide. The catheter shaft includes a wire guide port having a stress riser, the stress riser being configured to reduce the force necessary to rupture or split the portion of the shaft wall adjacent to the wire guide port. In a preferred embodiment, the catheter shaft is coextruded and comprises a plurality of materials. The portion of the shaft adjacent the wire guide lumen is formed from a material is selected or adapted to facilitate splittability as compared to the remaining shaft materials.

The catheter may be constructed of one or more core elements that may be partially or fully surrounded by a jacket member in a variety of configurations. The core elements may comprise different properties with respect to the jacket member or one another, thereby permitting increased manufacturing flexibility. The modular catheter designs of the present invention further provide for a variety of lumen configurations, as well as providing for catheters that can change their shape by moving the core elements with respect to the jacket member or one another.

摘要： An evacuation sheath assembly and method of reducing or removing a blockage within a vessel without permitting embolization of particulate matter is provided. The evacuation sheath assembly includes a first elongate tubular member, having proximal and distal ends and a main lumen configured to be placed in fluid communication with a blood vessel. An expandable member is provided on a distal portion of the tubular member and is configured to form a seal with the blood vessel. The evacuation assembly further includes a second elongate tubular member having proximal and distal ends and an inflation lumen configured to be placed in fluid communication with the expandable member and a gas inflator. The gas inflator includes a high pressure gas source and a mechanism for regulating the pressure of the gas delivered by the gas inflator.

摘要： A single or multilumen intravenous catheter that may include an integral biosensor having an active portion exposed through a sensing port formed in a distal portion of an outer wall of the catheter. The biosensor may be formed on a flex circuit mounted to a support member or probe that displaces the active portion from an inner wall of the catheter for protection from friction during installation through a lumen. The support member or probe may position the biosensor concentrically within the lumen or against an inner diameter of the outer wall. The biosensor may be sealed about the sensing port to prevent passage of fluid therethrough, or a proximal end of the sensing port may remain open to allow flushing of the biosensor with saline infused through the lumen.

The catheter comprises a catheter body sized to at least partially extend between the body vessel and the external site. 摘要： An evacuation sheath assembly and method of reducing or removing a blockage within a vessel without permitting embolization of particulate matter is provided. A method of treatment of a blood vessel using the evacuation sheath assembly includes advancing the evacuation sheath assembly into the blood vessel through a guide catheter. The expandable member is inflated to provide form a seal between the blood vessel and the guide catheter and a vacuum is applied to the main lumen of the first elongate tubular member to cause retrograde blood flow and carry fluid into the main lumen of the evacuation sheath assembly.

摘要： A method for cerebral and systemic cooling by providing a nebulized liquid having a boiling point of 38 - 300 °C. The nebulized liquid is delivered as a mist or a spray via the nasal and/or oral cavities of a patient. The mist causes cooling by direct heat transfer through the nasopharynx and hematogenous cooling through the carotids and the Circle of Willis. Compositions and medical devices for cerebral and systemic cooling are also provided. Cooling assemblies, and methods of use, are also provided that include flexible balloon assemblies that are inserted to various locations in a patient's body. The flexible balloons are then infused with a liquid having a temperature between about -20 °C and about 37 °C. The flexible balloon assemblies can be inserted into the nasal cavity, oral cavity, throat, stomach, and other locations to effect cerebral cooling.
