    • 1. A trap for rodents, including in particular rats, said trap comprising: a housing; and a trapping chamber in which a passage extends from the side(s) of the housing. The trap further comprises two electric poles, of which the one electric pole is disposed outside the trapping chamber and a reservoir. The trap is moreover configured with a transport mechanism for the transport of the trapping chamber with rodent between a lower position in which the rodent is able to run into the trapping chamber and an upper position in which the trapping chamber is able to discharge a destroyed rodent into the reservoir. The trapping chamber and the electric poles comprise means to the effect that the electric poles can be caused to be situated close to each other within the trapping chamber.

    • The present invention provides? for a rodent trap (10) , comprising a housing (12) having first and second openings (18a, 18b) providing access to a chamber (20) located within said housing. First and second detection means (32a, 32b) are provided adjacent said openings respectively, and arranged to detect the presence of a rodent. A timing means is provided which is arranged to be initiated when one of said detection means detects the presence of a rodent. Further, there are provided first and second closure means (22a, 22b) associated with said first and second openings respectively and arranged to be triggered by way of the detection means to prevent escape from said chamber, said closure means being arranged to be triggered when both said first and second detection means detect the presence of a rodent, within a period as determined by said timing means. The trap is arranged to receive extermination means operable to exterminate said rodent subsequent to activation of said closure means.

    • An electrically powered rodent trap which includes a surveillance system for remote surveillance of the trap so that the trap may be operated without being attended to. A rodent which enters into the trap is killed by means of electrocution electrodes. The dead rodent is automatically dispatched from the trap, e.g. by a trapdoor, into a container or reservoir beneath the trap. The number of electrocutions and possible other data is stored by an electronic system incorporated in the trap and a signal is sent out, either by request from an external unit, or automatically to an external unit. A city rodent exterminator is capable of monitoring the status of the trap from an office location and thereby effectively tend to the trap or to a series of traps.

    • An electronic or electronic animal trap wherein the housing includes a pair of spaced electrodes or charge plates in a killing chamber intermediate the trap entrance and a source of bait. When used in association with an inclined plane trap, the effectiveness of the electrocuting circuitry is enhanced. Alternative embodiments of the electric or electronic trap interpose at least one diverter in the pathway to the electrodes which discourages a target animal from reversing direction before it is electrocuted. In one embodiment, juxtaposed to the entrance are at least two diverter members angularly offset relative to each other to define a maze-like path to lead a target animal to the charge plates for electrocution while discouraging reversal of direction and protecting against direct access to the charge plates through the entrance opening by children, pets or non-target species. A diverter or barrier plate may be carried by the housing cover or side wall to extend into the space between the electrodes when the cover is closed, the lower edge of the barrier being spaced from the housing floor a limiited distance to force a target animal to squeeze under the barrier as it passes to the second electrode making escape before electrocution difficult. This design may be utilized in combination with a spaced, upwardly extending diverter or barrier plate to block direct access to the pair of electrodes from the entrance opening. The effectiveness of an inclined plane trap assembly may also be enhanced by a plate carried by the cover which forces a target animal to stretch itself out before engaging the second electrode.

    • The present invention is a method and apparatus for electrocuting pests such as gophers, rats and the like. The present invention employs a resistive switch (110) that uses the same electrodes (90, 94) to sense the presence of a pest therebetween as are used to electrocute the pest. The resistive switch senses a leakage current flowing through the pest and into the reference electrode of its electronic circuit and uses the presence of this current to trigger the generation of a high voltage and current that is of sufficient magnitude to dispatch the pest. A timer deactivates the generator after a predetermined time has elapsed to save battery power. A status indicator is provided that does not consume power unless activated by a user. The invention will not retrigger until reset by turning it off and then on again, thereby activating the power on reset circuit. The generator is battery powered and has been designed to collapse the output voltage if more current than is necessary to electrocute a rodent is attempted to be drawn from it.
