    • A method of managing access to problem event information collected by a User Equipment (UE). In one novel aspect, access to the problem event information is determined by a public land mobile network (PLMN) list stored in the UE. The UE collects problem event information, stores a PLMN list, and sends an indication that problem event information is available to a Radio Access Network (RAN) controller. In response, the RAN controller sends a request indicator to the UE requesting the event information. The UE transmits the requested event information when the requesting PLMN is included in the PLMN list stored in the UE. In one embodiment, the event information includes Minimization Drive Test (MDT) measurement information. In another embodiment, the event information includes radio link failure information. The solution enables managing access to problem event information with maximum simplicity and minimum impact to existing systems.

    • A method for contention-based (CB) uplink transmission in a wireless communication network is provided. A base station (eNB) first transmits CB configuration information and CB grant to a user equipment (UE). The UE derives a plurality of transmission opportunities from the uplink CB grant and in response transmits uplink CB data via one of the transmission opportunities. The UE then receives an acknowledgment from the serving base station. If the uplink CB data is non-decodable by the eNB due to multiple contention UEs, then the UE retransmits the uplink data in response to a negative acknowledgment. In one novel aspect, the uplink transmission radio resource carriers both the uplink CB data and UE-selected signature information. In one embodiment, the UE-selected signature information is transmitted via pilot tones. By eliminating a separate phase of contention resolution, the overall latency of CB transmission is reduced and transmission efficiency is improved.

When sleep mode operation is active, the MS enters into a series of sleep cycle and each sleep cycle comprises a liste ning window followed by a sleep window. Each set of sleep cycle paramete rs is determined based on a predefined traffic characteristic of a data communica tion flow between the MS and it serving BS. Different embodiments of sleep cycl e parameters are provided for real-time traffic, non-real-time traffic, real-time and non-real-time mixed traffic, and multi-rate transmission traffic. By using sleep cycle-based parameters, the efficiency of sleep mode operation is improved.

    • A method of throughput and data volume measurement for minimization of drive test (MDT) is proposed. A base station establishes a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a user equipment (UE) in a mobile communication network. The base station or UE measures transmitted or received data volume during a transmission time of a data burst between the base station and the UE. When the data burst spans multiple measurement periods and the data burst is split at each measurement period boundary. For each measurement period, data volume during the measurement period is measured to generate a measurement result. When throughput measurement is performed by the network, the base station receives location information that is available during the transmission time of the data burst. The data volume measurement is logged with time stamp such that each measurement result can correlated with the location information.

    • A method of UE RSRQ measurement precaution for interference coordination is provided. The UE receives radio signals of a neighbor cell under measurement. The neighbor cell applies a TDM silencing pattern for inter-cell interference coordination (TDM ICIC). The UE determines a measurement pattern that includes multiple subframes. The UE performs RSRQ measurements of the cell over multiple subframes and obtains multiple RSRQ measurement samples. The UE derives RSRQ measurement result by estimating the multiple RSRQ samples and applying a weighted average. RSRQ samples estimated to be more applicable are taken into account to more extent (e.g., applied with more weight), and/or RSRQ samples estimated to be less applicable are taken into account to less extent (e.g., applied with less weight, or discarded with zero weight). With UE precaution, a more predictable RSRQ measurement result is produced.
