    • An IEC inlet (1) with connection pins (2) supported in a mounting (3) is fitted to an appliance A with an interposed sealing washer (4). A shroud (5) is fitted over the inlet. The shroud has a barrel portion (11) with an end plate (12) at its outer end opposite from the washer (4). Extending both outwards and inwards of the end plate is a female receptacle (14) which is shaped complementarily to a lead connector C, i.e. it is of generally rectangular cross-section with chamfered corners. Two trunnions (IS) with a cross pin (17) extend up in the corner between the end plate (12) and the top wall (15) , both of which the trunnions are integrally moulded. The cross pin engages in two further, outer trunnions (18) integrally moulded with a cover (19), which normally extends across the mouth (20) of the receptacle (14). The cover has top and side flanges (21, 22), which extend back towards the end plate (12). Another flange (23) stands up from an inner edge of the top flange. The further trunnions (18) extend between the top flange (21) and the upstand (23) and, with the cross pin (17), provide the pivot for the cover. A spring (24) on the cross pin biases the cover to close the mouth of the receptacle. For opening the cover, it has a lug (25). When open, the lead connector can be inserted into the receptacle, engaging the connection pins (2). The cover protects the interface of the connector and the shroud from ingress of water. Should any water find its way inside the shroud, it can escape from the receptacle via drains (26), in the bottom wall (27) of the receptacle where this meets the end plate (12). To allow water to escape from within the barrel (11), a further drain is provided in the form a notch (28) at the bottom of the end of the barrel in contact with the sealing washer (4).

    • Apparatus and method is disclosed for flooding a nuclear imaging device (gamma camera) (1) with radiation from a calibration (flood) source (solid sheet) (8) in such manner as to greatly enhance the uniformity of the count density. For this purpose the flood source (8) is positionned beneath or adjacent the camera (1) for reception of radiation from the source by the device's sensing elements. The source is moved in a controlled motion. The resultant blurring or diminishing the effects of any non-uniformities in the source improves the perceived uniformity. An embodiment includes a mechanism (30) by which complex controlled motion is effected. This mechanism (30) includes a plurality of geared shafts (31, 32, 33) interconnected between the source support (18) and a drive motor (16). The resultant motion is a complex continuous patterned motion which presents many points on the source (8) to each of a plurality of sensors or detectors in the nuclear imaging device (1). Test results indicate greatly enhanced source characteristics which allow a solid source (Cobalt 57 or radioactive gold) to be substituted (as appropriate) for liquid phantoms (e.g. Tc-99m) with the advantage of avoiding the attendant problems associated with such liquid phantoms.

    • A system and method for inspecting a structure are provided. The system includes at least one non-destructive inspection ("NDF) sensor capable of acquiring data indicative of at least a portion of the structure, and at least one positional sensor for acquiring positional data of the NDI sensor. The system also includes a mechanism operable to trigger the NDI sensor and/or the positional sensor to acquire data such that data indicative of the structure and the positional data are acquired at approximately the same time. The system further includes a movable arm carrying the sensors and movably attached to a base. The system includes a data acquisition system capable of communicating with the sensors such that the data acquisition system generates information indicative of at least a portion of the structure based on the data acquired by the sensors.
