摘要： A connector (10) is provided that comprises a locking ring (16) engaged with a housing (14), wherein the housing (14) defines a first threaded portion (18) and a second threaded portion (20). The locking ring (16) comprises a thread engagement member (22). The first threaded portion (18) comprises a first pitch that is coarser than a second pitch of the second threaded portion (20).The thread engagement member (22) engages the first threaded portion (18) and the second threaded portion (20) to secure the locking ring (16) to the housing (14) with a varying amount of axial travel per rotation of the locking ring (16) that corresponds with the pitch of the first threaded portion (18) and the second threaded portion (20). As a result, the locking ring (16) initially engages the housing (14) with a relatively small rotation followed by relatively larger rotations for complete engagement to a fully mated condition.

摘要： A method of manufacturing an electrode for use in a plasma arc torch is provided that includes forming a conductive body to define a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, a distal end face disposed at the distal end portion, a central cavity, and a central protrusion disposed within the central cavity near the distal end portion. A plurality of emissive inserts are inserted through the distal end face and into the central protrusion. The plurality of emissive inserts are pressed into the central protrusion and both a proximal end portion of the central protrusion and the plurality of emissive inserts are deformed such that the plurality of emissive inserts extend radially and outwardly from the distal end portion at an angle relative to the distal end portion.

摘要： A gas distributor for use in a plasma arc torch is provided that has at least one plasma gas passageway formed conjointly with a metering passageway, and at least one helical gas passageway formed along an interior portion of the gas distributor, wherein the helical gas passageway is in fluid communication with the plasma gas passageway and the metering passageway. The combination of the metering passageway and the helical gas passageway provides for a metered flow rate and a controlled swirling flow of plasma gas within the plasma arc chamber, respectively, which functions to reduce the amount of molten emissive insert that is ejected from within an electrode at arc shut off, thereby resulting in an increased life of the consumable electrode.

摘要： In a plasma arc torch parts distribution network, the present invention provides a method of providing plasma arc torch parts for use in a single plasma arc torch model through a plurality of distribution channels. In one form of the present invention, the method comprises the steps of providing a first set of plasma arc torch parts to a replacement parts distributor, providing a second set of plasma arc torch parts to an original equipment manufacturer, and providing a third set of plasma arc torch parts to a select original equipment manufacturer. The first, second, and third set of plasma arc torch parts are not interchangeable such that the replacement parts distributor, the original equipment manufacturer, and the select original equipment manufacturer maintain separate inventories of plasma arc torch parts.

摘要： A plasma arc torch (10) is provided that comprises a set of torch consumable components secured to a torch head (12), wherein a supply of cooling fl uid flows coaxially through the torch to cool torch components and a supply of plasma gas and secondary gas flows through the torch to generate and stabilize a plasma stream for operations such as cutting workpieces. The torch consumable components, in part, comprise an electrode (100) and a tip (102) that include a variety of configurations for improved cooling, ele ctrical contact, and attachment to adjacent torch components. Further, a consumables cartridge is provided for ease of use and replacement of the torch consumable components. Additionally, methods of operating the plasma arc torch at relatively high current levels are also provided by the present invention.

摘要： A quick disconnect for use in a plasma arc torch is provided that comprises a plug housing and a mating socket housing, wherein a locking ring disposed around the plug housing secures the plug housing to the socket housing. A negative lead gas carrying pin is disposed within the plug housing, and a mating main power socket is disposed within the socket housing for the purpose of conducting both gas and electricity from a power supply to a plasma arc torch. Further, the negative lead gas carrying pin and mating main power socket are positioned off-center in order to provide additional volume for a plurality of signal conductors disposed within each housing, along with a pilot return conductor. Additionally, both the plug housing and the socket housing define a D-configuration in order to properly align the housings and conductors disposed therein, among other novel features of the present invention.

摘要： A method of operating a plasma arc torch is provided that includes directing a first portion of gas into a plasma chamber, directing a second portion of the gas to initiate a pilot arc in the plasma chamber, and redirecting the second portion of the gas to form a shield gas flow rather than venting the second portion to atmosphere. A plasma arc torch for this method includes a start cartridge disposed between an electrode and a tip for initiating the pilot arc. The start cartridge defines at least one redirect gas passageway in fluid communication with a shield gas passageway. The second portion of gas is redirected through the at least one redirect gas passageway and into the shield gas passageway.

In one form, the electrode includes a conductive body, a plurality of deformed emissive inserts, and a dimple. The plurality of emissive inserts and the dimple increase the life of the electrode.
