摘要： The presently disclosed subject matter relates to methods and compositions for detecting and for modulating expression of gene products associated with control of innate immune responses. In some embodiments, the methods include expressing in a cell a recombinant expression vector that encodes a microRNA (miRNA) in an amount sufficient to modulate expression of a Toll-like Receptor 2 (TLR2) gene product. Also provided are methods for modulating growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis in a subject, and for predicting a predisposition of a subject to develop an oral bacteria infection.

摘要： A method of measuring cytopathic effect in cells includes providing cells in culture, using electric cell-substrate impedance sensing (ECIS) to measure the resistance of current associated with the cells, and quantifying the cytopathic effect (CPE) associated with the cells based on the measured resistance. The cells may be identified as being infected with a virus if the CPE associated with the cells is above a predetermined level. Alternatively, the cells may be provided in a healthy monolayer and infected with a virus in order to measure the effect of the virus on CPE associated with the cells. Cells may also be treated with candidate antiviral agents and the effects of the agents on the virus-infected cells may be measured to screen for and identify actual antiviral agents.

摘要： A method for biosensing that includes passing, via convective flow, a sample believed to contain one or more target biomarkers through a micro fluidic channel and over the surface of an optical waveguide that has been prepared to bind the one or more target biomarkers, and sensing for an emission output from the optical waveguide at a wavelength that is characteristic of the binding of the target biomarker. A biosensor device that includes a module defining at least one microfluidic channel, an optical waveguide exposed along at least a portion of its length to fluid flow within the microfluidic channel, where a surface of the optical waveguide being prepared to bind a target biomarker, and an excitation source to couple an excitation wavelength of light into the optical waveguide. The device also includes a sensor for detecting emission light from the optical waveguide at an emission wavelength characteristic of binding of the target biomarker.

摘要： Preserved fusogenic vesicles are disclosed that include a saccharide, a fusogen, and a first polar phospholipid that is a stable vesicle former. The preserved fusogenic vesicles have a fusion rate of at least (20) vesicle fusions per second when re-hydrated. Methods of preserving fusogenic vesicles also are disclosed. Unexpectedly, after re-rehydration the preserved fusogenic vesicles may transfer substantially more ATP through a cell membrane than unpreserved fusogenic vesicles.
