    • A method of lining a service pipe comprising the steps of: a) providing a cross-linked polyethylene ("PEX") liner pipe of outside diameter substantially equal to or greater than the internal diameter of the service pipe; b) drawing the liner through a swage diet to reduce its diameter and increase its length; c) maintaining the swaged pipe under tension to maintain its reduced diameter; d) passing the reduced diameter swaged pipe along the service pipe; e) relieving the tension to permit the liner to elastically recover at least a proportion of its original dimensions; f) heating the liner to permit recovery of a further proportion of said original dimensions. This permits the advantages and benefits of PEX pipe to be employed in appropriate situations, e.g. where greater resistance to temperature or mechanical damage is required. More importantly, it enables lining of smaller pipes because larger relative diameter reductions are feasible with PEX.

    • The invention relates to a method for butt welding cross-linked polyethylene pipes in order to utilize these pipes in industrial and underground pipeline construction. According to the invention, the pipe faces of the PE-X pipes are spatially melted on using a serrated heating element (9), at a temperature > 420 DEG C, however 60s such that enlarged and serrated pipe faces (5) are produced whose integral melt layers join during the joining process while under a welding pressure of 0.10 to 0.40 N/mm . In addition, said pipe faces are spatially melted on such that a melt phase of these layers which is capable of joining evokes a mixing effect of the melt by means of turbulent movements (8) on contacting tooth flanks, and a spatially distributed weld seam is produced with an enlarged binding surface (7). The welding pressure is maintained until the joining zone has cooled to ambient temperature (2). The inventive butt welding method enables PE-X pipes to be directly joined to one another in a permanent and durable manner without requiring the use of welding auxiliary means or of an additive substance.

    • The invention includes methods of forming at least a portion of a golf ball core, and the golf balls prepared thereby, by mixing a resilient polymer component, a free-radical initiator system, and a crosslinking agent to provide a first mixture, forming the first mixture into a plurality of shells (2) having a desired shape, first heat curing the shells (2) at a temperature to impart a rigidity sufficient to maintain the desired shape until the shells (2) are assembled and subsequently heat cured, quenching the first heat curing by reducing the shell temperature to inhibit crosslinking while a sufficient amount of free radical initiator system is present to facilitate a second heat curing, providing a center (5), assembling at least two shells (2) concentrically about the center (5) to form a first mantle layer (22), wherein the first mantle layer (22) and center (5) together form the ball core, and second curing the core at a temperature and for a time sufficient to further crosslink the first mixture and to at least crosslink the shells (22), thereby forming a cured golf ball core.
