摘要： A method of thresholding a set of images of an object of interest taken at different relative axial positions, each image in the set of images comprising a plurality of pixels each pixel having an intensity. The method comprises determining based on the intensities of the pixels in plural images from the set of images a global intensity value for the set of images; determinging based on the intensities of the pixels in a first image from the set of images a local intensity value for the first image; establishing for at least one image intermediate the first and second images, a respective lower threshold that is dependent on at least the global intensity value and the local intensity value for the first image; and binarizing the at least one intermedite image according to the respective lower threshold to create a corresponding at least one mask for segmentation of the object of interest.

Two thresholds are determined: a high threshold excludes the high intensity bones, while a low threshold excludes air and CSF. Brain mask propagation uses the spatial relevance of brain tissues in neighbouring slices to exclude non-brain tissues with similar intensities.

摘要： A method is proposed for obtaining a threshold value T which partitions a dataset, such as a medical image, into two classes, the classes being composed of pixels having an intensity value respectively not greater than and below the threshold. The threshold T is selected so as to minimize a weighted sum of (i) a term which varies with the within-class variance of the classes and (ii) a term which varies inversely with the contrast between the classes. The weighed sum depends upon a weighting factor λ which can be selected based on a supervised learning process using similar datasets, or obtained using a priori knowledge of the dataset.

One method includes the step of labeling (130) with a current label all voxels that are internal to a predetermined sub-volume oriented with respect to an unlabeled voxel, and directly connected to the unmarked voxel.
