    • A lighting system (1) has a first lighting circuit (2) configured to provide a first predetermined level of lighting intensity. The first lighting circuit (2) is configured to receive power from a mains electricity supply (3) or from a battery source (4) if the mains supply is unavailable. In the system (1), the second predetermined level of lighting intensity is greater than said first predetermined level of lighting.

    • A street light (1) is releasably detachably mountable to a bracket (3) attached to a street light support (7A). The mounting bracket (3) includes electrical power terminals (9) to provide electrical power therefrom. The street light (1) comprises a light housing (11) having a retaining means (13) to releasably engage with the mounting bracket (3) to secure the light housing (11) to the street support (7B). The retaining means (13) has an electrical coupling (15/29) forming an electrical connection to the mounting bracket power terminals (9) when the retaining means (13) is engaged with the mounting bracket (3).
