    • The invention relates to a limited rotation galvanometer having a shaft adapted to be deflected in accordance with an electrical drive signal applied to the galvanometer, the galvanometer comprising a stator assembly formed of at least one stationary permanent magnet and at least one pole piece cooperatively arranged about a hollow bore, a rotor associated with the shaft and mounted to turn in the hollow bore, and an electrical winding wound about the pole piece and adapted to receive the drive signal, this stator assembly and rotor defining magnetic circuitry for operation of the galvanometer, the deflection of the rotor being dependent upon the rigidity of the stator assembly and the value of the torque applied between the stator assembly the rotor by the application of the drive signal to the winding. According to the invention the galvanometer includes a molded, hoop-like outermost layer of rigid, reinforced stress-resistant synthetic resin material extending continuously around the exterior of the galvanometer, the synthetic resin material having the property of shrinking at least 1% during solidification, or preferably, the synthetic resin material being nylon, the layer engaging the outer surfaces of the winding, the magnet, and the pole piece, the molded hoop-like layer residing under substantial pre-stress hoop tension as the result of shrinkage during solidification of the synthetic resin material during molding, the molded hoop-like external layer applying stress to the stator assembly, thereby to force the magnet and the pole piece against one another, thereby imparting rigidity to the stator assembly and contributing to the accuracy of the deflection of the galvanometer.

    • An electrical indicator device for providing simultaneous relatively coarse analog, and higher-resolution, digital readings of a particular electrical parameter, all in one instrument. The device includes a d'Arsonval meter movement which carries a pointer movable over a predetermined portion of a calibrated meter scale plate, and a liquid crystal display having multiple digits, each digit being constituted of multiple segments. The segments are disposed completely within the confines of the meter scale plate, but lie substantially completely outside of the said predetermined portion thereof. The display is driven or energized by a digital voltmeter having its terminals connected to receive and monitor the same parameter that is being measured by the d'Arsonval movement. The arrangement is such that the individual segments of the digital display are always completely visible regardless of the position which the pointer occupies with respect to the said predetermined portion of the scale plate.

    • A recording device which utilizes a closed loop servo system including a limited rotation motor, i.e. a moving coil galvanometer wherein the moving coil is activated by an input signal such that the rotational movement of a shaft supporting such coil may be translated into a graphic display for recording of the input signal. The device has specific utility in the recording of medical information wherein the input signal is created by the patient's body functions but has widespread alternate utility. The device further includes a transducer construction utilizing a rotational resistance mechanism including a rotating hub to which a contact arm is attached that creates a signal proportional to the position of the coil shaft and utilizes this signal for comparison with the input signal such that the coil position and thus that of the shaft may be corrected. Any mechanical or electrical vibration in the resistance element is prevented or reduced by the use of a viscous dampening material disposed between the hub and contact arm of the rotational resistance mechanism.

    • An arrangement for moving coil or iron instruments with an axis and a moving member attached thereto. The moving member is a moving coil or iron designed in the shape of a circular segment and has one or two arms at the axis for retention and for fixing its position. The arm(s) has free ends which exhibit a slit of a particular shape and dimension such that the axis fits into the slit. The free ends are slid in a fork-like manner onto the axis from the side, i.e., approximately perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the axis. The free ends have prongs defining the slit located on opposite sides next to the axis and are connected to the axis directly or by means of intermediate parts.
