    • The collar has a roughly cylindrical metal band and a pair of ears projecting from this band and defining a tightening space between themselves. It also has a tightening device for pulling these ears towards each other. The ears have an extension which is bent around behind each ear away from the other ear and which has a hole for the tightening rod and the tightening device, this hole being lined up with a hole in the forward part of the same area ear. A bracing space is provided between the bent extension and this forward part. The holes of the extension and of the forward part each have an edge portion with a guard which extends into the bracing space and an edge portion without a guard which is aligned with the guard of the other hole.

    • An exhaust tail pipe includes a front outer tube, an inner tube and a rear tail pipe. The inner tube has a plurality of screw holes on one side mating a plurality of apertures formed on a rear coupling portion of the front outer tube to be fastened together by a plurality of bolts. The rear coupling portion is coupled on the front end of the rear tail pipe so that the rear section of the inner tube is held at the rear end of the rear tail pipe and fastened together by welding. Such a structure allows the front outer tube and rear tail pipe to be made of different materials, thus can maintain aesthetic appeal of the appearance to enhance product value.

    • A threaded pipe coupling is shown for a drill pipe used in horizontal boring operations utilizing a special form of a threaded connection with an internal stiffener ring which eliminates the need for hot forging operations. The pipe coupling is used for joining an upset region of a first tubular member to a further tubular member of lesser external diameter. The internal stiffener ring is received within the internal bore of the pin end of the coupling and underlies and extends along a portion of its length. The stiffener ring having an innermost extent terminating in an exposed end which is received upon an internal shoulder provided in the mating internally threaded box end. The stiffener ring also has an external shoulder formed at the innermost extent thereof which traps the pin face between the ring exterior and the box threaded interior.

    • A U-bolt clamp saddle construction is disclosed particularly adapted for applications such as clamping catalytic converter pipe connections requiring a rigid saddle. The saddle clamp is of two-piece welded construction, each piece being formed of sheet steel with a square-sided channel on either side, each piece also having an intermediate web having a semicircular cutout adapted to engage the pipe diameter to be clamped. The outer edges of each of the channels are abutted by positioning the pieces together, which pieces are then welded at weld projections located along the edges and on the web to form a high strength flangeless saddle construction for maximum clearance at installation of the clamp. The square-sided channel allows clearance for weld flash, while enabling standard sized nuts to be used. A tab portion is formed on one of the pieces which is folded about the bottom edge and against the face of the other piece to create rigidity of the saddle during clamping adequate for good sealing pressure while affording sufficient yieldability for optimum interfitting with the pipe connection to be clamped.
