    • An activation unit is disclosed having at least one actuator having a variable length disposed around at least one first axis. The activation unit operatively interacts with an activation element mounted so that it can be bi-directionally deflected along a second axis. The front side of the actuator is indirectly or directly engaged with a first piston, which can be deflected along the first axis in a mechanically positively driven manner. The first piston has a front side facing away from the actuator which axially borders at least regions of a transfer medium on one side. The transfer medium is radially surrounded relative to a first axis by a housing radially to the first axis, and axially borders at least regionally a front side of at least one second piston. The at least second piston can be deflected in a mechanically positively driven manner, and engages the activation element directly or indirectly. An actively variable and/or passive temperature control medium is provided on and/or in the housing that is in indirect or direct thermal contact with the transfer medium.

    • A liquid cooled piston of an internal combustion engine includes a piston lower part and piston upper part which has a combustion chamber recess. These piston components are supported via joining lands which are spaced apart radially and together form a dividing plane, and are joined together with a material-to-material fit. In order to receive piston rings, the piston upper part has a ring area and includes an annular cooling channel which extends into the piston lower part and is connected to an inner cooling space via connecting channels. The cooling channel is adjoined by recesses which are oriented in the direction of a piston head, are configured as a blind hole and widen conically starting from the cooling channel as far as a recess bottom. The recess bottom can be of a pronounced undulating enlarged surface or a finely undulating configuration.

    • A one-piece steel piston that is made from a piston blank that includes a portion that is configured and designed to be displaced to form a cooling gallery and ring belt. The piston blank can be formed by a casting or forging process. The portion that is designed and configured to be displaced is a flange that extends radially outward. The flange is bent downward or upward so that a peripheral edge of the flange contacts another portion of the piston. The peripheral edge of the flange and the other portion of the piston can be welded together or mechanically engaged.

    • A piston has a one-piece, preferably cast aluminum, piston head with a cooling oil gallery completely surrounded by and within the head. The piston head has a pin bore for a piston pin that does not intersect with the cooling oil gallery. The pin bore is sized to maintain a substantially uniform clearance between the piston pin and the piston head. The piston head has a passage extending from the pin bore to the cooling oil gallery to allow cooling oil from the gallery to lubricate the piston pin. The passage is preferably drilled after the piston head is cast. Preferably, the pin bore does not have a recess at the passage. A method of manufacturing a piston includes casting the one-piece piston head and drilling a passage from the pin bore to the cooling oil gallery.

    • The invention relates to a lightweight piston comprising heat pipes. The aim of the invention is to simplify the structure of such a piston while at the same time allowing for an improved heat dissipation from the piston areas subject to heat load while avoiding thermal stress. For this purpose, a plurality of liquid-filled heat pipes each having an evaporator and a condenser end is used, whereby the evaporator end is configured by short pipe sections that are oriented in the thickness at bottom towards the focal point and that are interlinked by means of a composite heat pipe extending in parallel to the piston head. At least two pipe sections functioning as the condenser end are coupled with the composite heat pipe in such a manner as to configure, by way of a pipe connection arranged on the condenser ends, a closed coolant cycle between the evaporator end, composite heat pipe and condenser end of the heat pipe.
