    • An improved system designed to control and filter runoff water in storm drains is presented. Drain water frequently carries trash, organic matter, suspended solids, hydrocarbons, metals, nutrients and bacteria collected from streets and parking lots into a storm drain inlet, which enters storm water drain pipe systems. The present invention supplies a series of baffle boxes inserted in the drain water stream with a final box possessing a selection from a collection of upflow filters, including a hydrocarbon-absorbing boom. The system can also support a storm flow bypass that directs high-flow storm runoff water directly to the outlet to protect the filter system.

    • Described are methods and systems for filtering and capturing waterway wastes. The system can include a bottom section that can remain stationary irrespective of the height of a waterway surface, a side section, a top section that adjusts in response to a change in the height of the waterway surface, a waste capture apparatus for collecting waterway waste, a floatation device, and a first mounting device. The method can include the steps of providing a waterway waste capturing device including top and bottom sections, adjusting the height of the top section based on the height of the waterway, and collecting waterway wastes. By filtering and capturing waterway wastes in accordance with the inventions provided herein, one can efficiently and effectively improve the manner in which wastes and other debris are removed from a waterway, thus mitigating the wastes' adverse environmental effects and significantly decreasing the cost of its removal.

    • A method includes placing pipe stands to support waste-conveying pipes in a trench in a septic system. The pipe stands are preferably flat bowtie-shaped sheets (preferably polymeric) folded to form stable pipe supports. Holes or notches are formed that align when the sheet is folded, thus providing stable support for a horizontal pipe when the panels' bottom edges rest on the ground. Modified versions include: folding a fold-out foot in the panels for engaging soft soil, forming fold-out dispersing flanges for dispersing waste dropped from the pipe, driving stakes into soft soil for stability, punching-out rings or multiple holes for supporting different sized pipes, stabilizing opposing panels in the sheet to fixedly maintain their spacing, forming a feature for receiving a grounded wire stake, and/or providing a bias from the living hinge of the fold line causing frictional gripping of the pipe. Many versions can be used in different orientations.

    • Apparatus and method for containment of well fluids flowing from a subsea well fluid leak feature a containment structure positioned over the well blowout, and an elongated collection conduit supported with an upper end exposed to atmospheric pressure above sea level and a lower end in fluid communication with surrounding sea water over an upper opening of the containment structure. Collected well fluid rises in the elongated conduit due to a lower specific gravity of the well fluid relative to the sea water, and is discharged from the elongated conduit at a location above sea level to a receiving vessel. The open piping system allows for easier installation of the separate containment system and collection conduit, and allows sea water to be displaced from the open lower end of the conduit above the containment structure under filling of the conduit with rising well fluid.
