    • A subsurface propeller module, using Voith Schneider propeller technology, is provided for use in underwater vehicle dynamic motion control. One or more modules are mounted between nose and body sections of the vehicle such that their axes of rotation coincide with the longitudinal centerline of the vehicle. This enables the module to thrust in any direction normal to the direction of travel. Wiring for power and sensors can be routed through structural conduits connecting the nose section to the main body of the vehicle and supporting the propeller modules. The structural conduits can be shaped to provide support for the nose and body sections, and to have minimal hydrodynamic impact on vehicle forward motion or module thrust. A sealed housing is provided for the motors and control actuators of the propeller modules.

    • A cooling fan is provided that does not place limitations on the installation conditions for the fan, is capable of cooling a backlight unit of a display panel with high efficiency, and produces less noise during operation. Also provided is an image display apparatus equipped with the cooling fan. The cooling fan includes a fan rotator composed of a rotational shaft that is rotationally driven by a driving motor and two vanes that have parallel revolution shafts that rotate together with the rotational shaft, are freely rotatable on the shafts, face one another, and revolve around the rotational shafts and a vane angle control unit that implements control so that each vane has a maximum rotation angle when a revolution angle of the vanes is in a vicinity of a first revolution angle and each vane has a rotation angle of 0° when a revolution angle of the vane is in a vicinity of a second revolution angle that is perpendicular to the first revolution angle. By rotating the fan rotator, a wind in a single direction perpendicular to the rotational shaft is generated to cool a back light unit of a flat panel display, for example.

    • A blade wheel ship propeller has a rotatable hub from which a plurality of blades extend vertically downwardly adjacent the periphery thereof with the blades being pivotable about their longitudinal axes. The blades are connected to a displaceable control disk in the hub which determines the center of eccentricity for the blades. A vertically extending universally tiltable control member has one end pivotably connected to the control disk and its upper end pivotally connected to the lower end of a measuring rod which is gimbal mounted or firmly connected in a propeller housing. The angles of tilt of the gimbal mounting axes or the magnitude and direction of bending of the measuring rod are sensed and transmitted to remotely located indicators to indicate the position of the control center with respect to a reference point on the propeller.

    • A cycloidal propelling device for use on submersibles which operates in a flooded sea water environment and thereby eliminates the need for a protective sealing housing containing oil. While the propeller blades of the device are being driven in an orbital path, if a change in blade pitch is desired, a control shaft is rotated. Rotation of the blade pitch control shaft rotates a central pinion gear which drives a timing belt. Movement of the timing belt simultaneously and in synchronization rotates propeller blade gears and changes the pitch of the propeller blades which are mounted thereon with water-lubricated plastic bearings. Plug-in, pullout type plastic breakway propeller blades are used for easy repair and replacement.
