    • A brake system for bicycles includes two pivotably connected first and second arms and two brake pads are respectively connected to the first and second arms. A cable unit is connected to the second arm and includes a brake cable. A link unit includes a first link which is connected between the second arm and the brake cable. A second link has a first end connected to the first arm and a second end of the second link is pivotably connected to a mediate portion of the first link. The distance between the two ends of the first link is longer than the distance between the second end of the first link to the second end of the second link. The brake cable is lifted with less force, the first link lifts the second link which moves the first arm to pivot to stop the wheel rim.

    • A motor-assisted pedal tricycle has two parallel rear wheels mounted on corresponding first and second axially-aligned axles via overriding clutches. The axially-aligned axles are connected to a differential which is driven by an electric motor, and which allows the first and second wheels to rotate independently of one another. Power may also be applied to one of the rear wheels via a pedal mechanism, which is connected to the wheel via an overriding clutch. The tricycle may be operated using pedal power and motor power independently or in combination. Moreover, the rear wheels may rotate in a forward direction independently of the differential, the motor, and the pedals when the motor and the pedals are not in use, or when the vehicle is travelling at a speed faster than that which can be attained under power of the motor and the pedals either independently or in combination.

    • The invention relates to a hydraulic rim brake for bicycles with a triggering mechanism which is attached to the handlebar of the bicycle and is actuated by a hand lever, with two brake cylinder housings which are attached to the frame of the bicycle in oppositely located relationship to each other and enclose between them a wheel rim, the brake cylinder housings being connected by pressure lines to the triggering mechanism, with pistons displaceable in the brake cylinder housings, and with brake shoe supports arranged on these pistons for supporting brake shoes engaging the rim. In order to protect the piston from the effect of harmful bending moments, provision is made for the brake shoe supports to be in the form of flanges which are connected to the piston and are each displaceable parallel to the motion of the brake piston in a slide guide provided on the brake cylinder housing, and for the slide guide to simultaneously constitute abutments for absorption of the braking forces.

    • A hand-operated bicycle brake assembly includes a pair of complementary, similar, preferably identical, caliper arms having a pre-formed configuration, central supporting structure including a central aperture through the elongated caliper arm and a complementary central aperture through an offset planar portion extending from the central area of the arm, one end of the arm provided with a concave recess and threaded aperture for a locking bolt therein, a brake shoe, a support hub integral therewith and provided with spherical projections at each end for mating with a recess in the caliper arm and a bushing and secured to the caliper arm by a through bolt, the caliper arm being forked and provided with a cable clamp nut and bolt. The cable clamp nut and bolt is in two parts for engaging a cable as passed through a slot in the bolt. The brake assembly further comprises a support head having a mounting bolt for attachment thereof in adjustable fashion to a bicycle frame and a bearing support projection extending therefrom for supporting the complementary pair of caliper arms thereupon by central mounting apertures thereof. Low friction bearing washers and sleeve are provided with a locking bolt for retaining the caliper arms on the support projection and finishing the assembly.

    • A bicycle wheel rim brake comprises a pair of extensible and retractable brake members mounted in bicycle frame members which straddle the wheel rim. Each brake member is symmetrical about the longitudinal axis of its frame member and is slidably mounted in an opening formed in a support for movements toward and away from the rim. A cover is carried by each support and overlies the associated opening. Springs acting between the covers and the brake members bias the latter away from the rim and hold the covers in place.
