    • In a vehicle system, an inter-vehicle distance between vehicles is controlled by periodically reporting vehicle statuses from a plurality of vehicles to a ground controller and also periodically sending travelling instructions to the plurality of vehicles from the ground controller. Each vehicle stops when detecting failed reception of an instruction from the ground controller and reporting a vehicle status including information that the vehicle has stopped to the ground controller, and the ground controller based on the report received from the stopped vehicle sends a travelling instruction to the stopped vehicle, and based on the report received from the stopped vehicle, also sends a travelling instruction to a vehicle that follows the stopped vehicle so as to avoid interference with the stopped vehicle.

    • A train control system includes an on-board device 3 mounted on a train 2; a vehicle radio set 4; wayside radio sets 5 that are disposed on a ground; and ground devices 6 disposed in every control sections defined on the track. In each control section, the ground device 6 is connected to the wayside radio sets 5 in the control section. When one ground device 6 fails to transmit information to and receive information from another ground device 6, the one ground device 6 determines that said another ground device 6 has been failed, and then, the one ground device 6 calculates a possible travel distance to a control section of the failed ground device 6 to prevent the train 2 from entering the control section of the failed ground device 6, and then, the one ground device 6 transmits the possible travel distance to the on-board device 3.

    • A train detection device for use in railroad models is provided with a capacitance type sensor which detects the close approach or passage of a train by responding to capacitance of the train. By using the capacitance type sensor, the train detection device becomes a non-contact type detection device, which avoids the kind of damage that can occur with contact type detectors. The train detection device is applied to a train crossing control apparatus for use in railroad models equipped with a crossing gate, a warning signal, and a controlling device for controlling the operations of the crossing gate and the warning signal. The controlling device comprises the capacitance type sensors each provided on either side of the crossing so as to define an activation region, each of the sensors detecting the approach or passage of a train by responding to the capacitance thereof, the capacitance type crossing sensor that detects the approach or passage of a train through the crossing, and a reverse motion detection device that detects reversal of the direction of motion of the train. With these elements the train crossing control apparatus is able to determine the position of the train within the activation region, so as to accurately and reliably control the operations of the crossing gate and warning signal irregardless of any changes in the direction of motion thereof.
