    • A railroad car bolster with provision for elastomeric cushions or pads on each side of the bolster center plate. The pads are mounted in retainers. The side walls of the retainers extend upwardly from the bolster and have substantially continuous uninterrupted upper surfaces. The pads positioned within the retainers have elongated slots which extend along and are slightly spaced from the retainer side walls. Fastening members, in the form of angles, are welded to each retainer side wall, and have a portion thereof which extends along the flat upper surface of the side wall and into the pad slots to thereby secure the pads within the retainers.

    • This application discloses a railway vehicle truck of a general configuration having independently movable side frames, wherein the side frames are provided with resilient connections with the wheel-axle units which allow universal turning movement but substantially inhibit relative axial movement; wherein the side frames are connected at longitudinally spaced points by transverse cross-frame or transom bar members which are rigidly connected to the side frames at one end and connected to opposite side frames by true turning shaft-bearing joints which also, when needed, provide limited axial movement, the shaft-bearing joints having axes disposed on a line passing through the vertical axis of turning of the truck whereby the transom bars positively maintain the truck in tram; wherein a center frame is mounted at longitudinally spaced laterally central points on the transom bars by resilient joints which are spaced approximately the same distance from the transverse vertical central plane of the truck as the shaft-bearing turning joints of the transom bars on the side frames, the resilient joints providing considerable vertical turning movement but restricting direct vertical movement; wherein the center frame provides a true turning shaft-bearing joint with the truck bolster; wherein the truck bolster is turnably supported by resiliently backed bearing plates on supporting surfaces on the side frames; wherein the vehicle body is supported by air springs located directly upon and above the side frames, the air springs being of a type to assist materially in controlling transverse movements and, in conjunction with air reservoirs and suitable orifice or valve means to assist in controlling vertical ride dynamics of the vehicle; wherein a frame carrying a drive motor and axle drive means is supported by the center frame in such manner that the movements of the motor frame are kept within proper limits relative to the axles; and wherein a transverse anti-roll bar suspension is provided to control roll dynamics of the truck bolster and the vehicle or car body carried thereon.

    • This application discloses lateral roll control means for railway vehicles, especially for high-level double-deck passenger cars, such as are shown in U.S. Pat. No. 2,811,832 Clary, Nov. 5, 1957, and those using light-weight trucks, as of the ''''Pioneer'''' type disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 2,908,230, W. B. Dean, Oct. 13, 1959, and comprises specially designed spring means between the truck bolster and car bolster which allows considerable lateral movement, together with auxiliary means for restraining lateral roll movement, said roll restraint means being located above the car bolster or floor over the trucks and upward toward the center of gravity (C.G.) of the car.

    • A resilient railway truck and vehicle suspension provides soft body springing while reducing axle to axle load transference. The axle-supported truck frame swivelly mounts a transverse subbolster and a transverse bolster is carried on the sub-bolster by elastomeric pad devices oppositely inclined longitudinally of the truck so that their normals intersect at a level below the axles, preferably about rail level. The bolster supports the body by upright springs at each side of the truck and is restrained against longitudinal movement or tilting movement about its transverse axis with respect to the body so that tipping movements of the truck relative to the body including those necessary to accommodate to changes in vertical track curvature occur about the intersection of the elastomeric pad device normals, thereby reducing or eliminating any vertical moment arm through which the tractive forces might act on the truck to cause objectionable axle to axle load transference.
