    • An electronic portable document format (PDF) file contains different combinations of gradient blends between spot color and process color. Each gradient blend is represented as both rasterized bitmap and vector images. The rasterized bitmap and vector images can be used to quickly assess the capability of any digital front end (DFE) to process the color gradient blends. The PDF file contains two sets of spot color and process color blended combinations. The first set contains four types of color gradient blends: spot-to-spot, process-to-spot, spot-to-process, and process-to-process, each of which represent the intended design. The second set contains the same four types of color gradient blends, except here the CMYK colors associated with the spot colors are intentionally manipulated. By printing the PDF file using different DFEs, one may compare the output from the two sets and immediately identify any color gradient handling problem, providing a quick benchmarking tool.

    • An print control apparatus for printing a reproduction checking image in colors. In a print control apparatus 1 that has a printing device 6 to print a document, a CPU 2 combines a remaining pattern image composed of dots larger than a minimum dot size readable by a color copying machine and a vanishing pattern image composed of dots having the same size as the larger dot and dots smaller than the minimum dot readable by the color copying machine to produce a reproduction checking image and causes the printing device 6 to print the reproduction checking image along with document print data on paper (FIG. 1).

    • Print data is input from a computer, and a main translator of an image processing apparatus analyzes the print data, and performs an output data process. In addition, a sub-translator analyzes the print data, performs an external reference data obtaining process through a network, holds the obtained external reference data in a storage device, and manages the data in a resource management table. When the main translator requires the external reference data, it performs the output data process using the external reference data managed in the resource management table. Thus, the output data process and the external resource pre-reading process are simultaneously performed, thereby improving the throughput of the entire system.

    • L*a*b* values of an original image are obtained by measuring 6,000 color patterns with a colorimeter. RGB data for the 6,000 color patterns is also obtained by scanning the 6,000 color patterns with the color copier. The colorimeter is used to measure an image, which has been printed by the color copier based on CMY data for about 5,000 colors that is generated by a personal computer, in order to obtain L*a*b* values corresponding to the about 5,000 colors of CMY data. Then, CMY data corresponding to the L*a*b* values for the 6,000 colors is determined based on the relationship between the CMY data and L*a*b* values for the about 5,000 colors using a triangular pyramid interpolating method, thereby determining CMY data corresponding to the 6,000 colors of RGB data. The thus obtained RGB-CMY relationship data for 6,000 colors is compressed into RGB-CMY relationship data for 729 colors, using triangular pyramid interpolation, to obtain a conversion table.

    • An object of the present invention is to provide a command data conversion device and printing apparatus that can correctly interpret print command data even where the codes or the parameter codes assigned to the commands in the print command data change, or where the data output sequence changes. Using the present invention, print command data including commands used in print control as well as associated data are received, and the contents thereof are interpreted. Multiple commands are rewritably stored in command registers in advance, and if a command included in the print command data matches any of the stored multiple commands, prescribed processing is carried out to at least one of either the command or its associated data.
