    • A three dimensional folded structure, for use in lightweight design and lightweight construction, is folded at regular intervals and cannot be folded flat. The folded structure substantially extends in two directions and includes a small number of folded ply sheets. Each of the ply sheets is formed by an originally planar blank of an initially flat material lying in a zero plane and includes fold lines and polygonal holes disposed at regular distances. Each of the ply sheets is subdivided into a plurality of segments, each in the form of a polygonal planar entity that is, except at a border of the ply sheet, delimited by the fold lines and the border-edge-sections of a respective polygonal hole. Each ply sheet is folded up in two directions. During folding, the holes close into slits. Each slit of one ply-sheet is completely bridged by the other ply-sheet.

    • A process for forming an array of irregularities or features that are submicron-size in height and that have a characteristic lateral dimension that is micron- or submicron-size, over a surface of a material by reactive-ion etching, the process including: supplying the material with a thickness at least equal to 100 nm, the material being a solid hybrid material that includes: a simple silicon oxide or a mixed silicon oxide, most of the oxides in the case of a mixed oxide being silicon oxide, an oxide molar percentage in the material being at least 40%; and a species, of a different nature to the silicon of the oxide, a molar percentage of the species in the material ranging from 1 mol % or even up to 50 mol % while remaining below the percentage of the silicon oxide, at least most of the species having a largest characteristic dimension smaller than 50 nm, optionally heating the hybrid material before the etching; structuring the surface of the hybrid material, without masking, with etching that lasts less than 30 minutes over an etching area greater than 1 cm2, until the array of features is formed, the structuring optionally being accompanied by heating of the hybrid material.

    • A process for creating porous anode foil for use in an electrolytic capacitor of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator is provided. The process includes electrochemical drilling a plurality of etched metal foils in sequence one after the other in a bath containing electrochemical drilling (ECD) solution initially having a pH of less than 5. Alternatively, an etched foil sheet may be passed through the bath in a substantially continuous manner such that a portion of said etched foil sheet is in contact with the ECD solution is electrochemically drilled to generate pores. Electrochemical drilling is achieved when a current is passed to the foil or portion of the foil sheet in solution, ECD replenishment solution having a pH of less than about 5 is added from a feed reservoir to the bath at such a rate so as to maintain a pH in the ECD solution in the bath of less than about 5, and ECD solution in the bath is removed to a waste reservoir at the substantially the same rate as the addition of the ECD replenishment solution to the bath.
