摘要： A method and apparatus are provided for sorting items to form groups at respective sort destinations. A scanning station evaluates one or more characteristics of each item fed into the apparatus. The items are loaded onto one of a plurality of independently controlled delivery vehicles. The delivery vehicles are individually driven to sort destinations. Once at the appropriate sort destination, the delivery vehicle ejects the item to the sort destination and returns to receive another item to be delivered. A re-induction conveyor may be provided for receiving select items from the vehicles and conveying the items back to the input station for re-processing. Additionally, a controller is provided to control the movement of the vehicles based on a characteristic each item being delivered by each vehicle. When an item to be manually sorted is encountered, a visual alert aligned with a selected destination is activated until manual transfer is confirmed.

摘要： An approach is provided for performing sorting of physical mail items using Augmented Reality (A/R) glasses. A/R glasses acquire an image of a physical mail item to be sorted and generate image data that represents the image. A unique value is generated for the image, for example, by processing the image data for the image using one or more hash functions to generate a hash value. The hash value is used to obtain sorting information for the mail item from a mail item manager. The A/R glasses use the sorting information to assist the user in sorting the mail item by displaying the name of a sort location for the mail item, visually distinguishing the sort location from other sort locations, displaying information about the mail item, providing “out of view” assistance, etc. The A/R glasses may allow the user to override the sort location specified for the mail item and override information is sent to the mail item manager.

An image is captured of a mail item and may include any information on the mail item, such as sender information, recipient information, a postmark, a cancellation, as well as artifacts of the mail item, such as seams, markings, coloration, texture, damage, etc. A unique value is generated for the image, for example, by processing the image data for the image using one or more hash functions to generate a hash value. The hash value uniquely identifies the mail item based upon the information included in the image, such as the sender and recipient information, postmark, cancellation, artifacts, etc., and is used to track and manage the mail item.

摘要： An apparatus for entering sorting information has a plurality of sorting devices, a plurality of terminal devices, and a sorting-data distributing device. Each of the sorting devices photo-electrically recognizes sorting information in an image on a document and sorts the document using the recognized sorting information as sorting data. It supplies unrecognizable sorting data to the distributing device. Each of the terminal devices displays received unrecognized sorting data. An operator recognizes the sorting information corresponding to the displayed unrecognized sorting data and enters the recognized sorting information into the terminal device. The recognized sorting data is supplied to the distributing device. The distributing device is connected between the plurality of sorting devices and the plurality of terminal devices to receive and transfer the unrecognized sorting data to the one of the plurality of terminal devices that currently has the lowest load, and also to receive the recognized sorting data supplied from the terminal device and transfer the recognized sorting data to the sorting device which has supplied the unrecognized sorting data corresponding to the recognized sorting data. The distributing device includes a control unit, a plurality of input sections individually connected to the plurality of sorting devices, and a plurality of output sections individually connected to the plurality of terminal devices.
