    • A data conversion apparatus included an information input device, a holder for holding information designating a method of the conversion processing from input portion when the kind of the input information is examined and is judged as predetermined data for executing a data conversion processing, a convertor for executing the data in accordance with a predetermined rule, a synthesizer for generating new data by combining the input information with a predetermined data content, and an information output device for outputting the new data so generated. When the kind of the data is screen configuration data describing configuration of the screen output of an information processing unit, the predetermined rule adds a display area of the screen configuration and converts it to a screen configuration data capable of displaying a plurality of screen configurations on the same screen.

    • A reverse path signaling circuit is described which provides less noise and interruption when injecting signals upstream to a head end. The reverse path signaling circuit includes a low pass filter, a status monitor, and a common emitter amplifier. The common emitter amplifier has a emitter region which couples to the status monitor. The status monitor couples to the common emitter amplifier as a single-ended input to the to the emitter region. The status monitor injects status monitor signals into the emitter region for passing the status monitor signals upstream to a head end. The low pass filter is coupled to another input on the common emitter amplifier. An output from the common emitter amplifier is taken at a collector region. The reverse path signaling circuit of the present invention does not require the use of a directional coupler as part of the circuit. Systems and methods are further included within the scope of the present invention.

    • A dual mode tuner/receiver is disclosed in which both analog and digital signals can be received and processed. A low pass filter allows all channels below a selected frequency enter the circuit. A precisely controlled dual conversion circuit creates an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. An automatic carrier detection circuit monitors the IF signal and determines whether the signal is of analog or digital format and intermediate frequency filters are adjusted based upon the type of signal detected. A coherent oscillator circuit generates in-phase and quadrature reference signals that are used by video and audio detectors for further processing of the IF signal. In-phase and quadrature outputs are provided for digital signals and composite video and audio outputs are provided for analog signals.
