    • An apparatus for driving a display panel comprises a receiving circuit of a TV broadcasting wave. The writing and reading operations of the pixel data to/from the memory are performed synchronously with the self-advancing clock signal, thereby preventing a disturbance of a display image upon channel switching.     • Methods and apparatus for processing data representing multiple image sequences, e.g., TV programs, and displaying multiple images from different video sequences in different windows of a single display screen are disclosed. The amount of system resources required to process and display the image data are a function of the size of the windows in which the images are displayed. In accordance with the present invention demand for system resources is assessed and compared to the amount of available system resources. If the demand for system resources will exceed the available system resources, the size of one or more of the windows used to display secondary images, e.g., the small PIP windows, is reduced to reduce the burden, e.g., processing or bus bandwidth burden, on one or more system resources. In one embodiment, the system suggests a set of window sizes to the user which will allow for the decoding and display of programs without exceeding the available system resources. The user can accept or modify the suggested program window sizes. When the user input results in the use of window sizes that will result in a demand for system resources that exceeds the available resources, data corresponding to inter-coded frames is ignored and/or decoding and display of secondary images is limited to images with significant scene changes.

    • The invention relates to the insetting of a moving picture in a moving main picture when the picture signals are in an encoded digital format. The main idea is that the picture signals are combined prior to decoding. The frames of the picture to be inset are scaled down by reducing the number of macro blocks in them in such a manner that the picture whole is retained. The macro blocks of a certain area of the main picture are replaced by the macro blocks of the reduced picture and the combined video signal is decoded. The video signals (ES1, ES2) to be combined may be picked up from different sources or extracted from a transport stream where they are in packets. The system according to the invention requires only a single decoder (210), which considerably reduces the amount of computation required by the combination of the pictures. The advantage is emphasized if there are several pictures to be combined.
