摘要： The method and apparatus of the present invention includes reducing the power level by a delta value in excess of the reduction in the bit error rate and its proportionate power reduction rate in response to a data rate change. If the bit rate is reduced to eighth, then the power transmission level can be reduced to a value of 1/(8+Δ) relative to FULL power. As an additional aspect of the present invention, the base station controller also generates a selectable frame error rate calculates the corresponding signal to noise ratios that will provide the commanded frame error rate. The FER may be selected according to data type or source or according to power transmission level and for data rate.

摘要： A microwave heterodyne relay system transmitting a main carrier, angle-modulated wave in combination with an auxiliary signal transmission system is disclosed. The auxiliary signal transmission is accomplished by a subcarrier wave frequencymodulated with the auxiliary signal. The frequency-modulated subcarrier wave is then used to amplitude modulate the main carrier. The receiver of the relay system is branched into two paths. In the first path, the envelope of the main carrier is detected and then frequency demodulated to obtain the auxiliary signal. In the second path, the amplitude modulation of the main carrier is suppressed by an amplitude limiter before the main carrier is amplitude modulated by the locally generated frequency-modulated subcarrier wave prior to retransmission.

The transmitted signal is formed by selectively gating the output signals from phase and frequency synchronized fundamental and third harmonic oscillators in signal periods between zero crossings of the fundamental signal. The received signals are amplitude detected at the midpoint of each signal period. The oscillators associated with one transmission circuit of the loop are synchronized to the oscillators of the other transmission circuit so that digital information may be simultaneously exchanged between the terminal devices of the loop.
