    • A fuseholder assembly for a fusible loadcenter is described. The assembly comprises a fuse unit and a base member. The fuse unit includes a pair of spaced apart U shaped fuse clips axially aligned about the longitudinal axis of a cartridge fuse. The fuse clips each have two mutually opposed wing contact portions that are substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis. The broad contacting surface area of the wing contact portions are capable of making contact with a load or line contact. The base member has an opening therein for receiving the fuse unit. The base member has a load and line contact each of which includes a base portion and two resilient side strips that are closely adjacent to each other. Each side strip is independently biased towards the opening in the base member and lies on a plane normal to the longitudinal axis. Each broad surface area of the wing portions makes wiping electrical contact with a smooth contact surface of a corresponding independently biased side strip when the fuse unit is inserted in the opening of the base member. Previous fuseholder assemblies have a heat producing joint where the contacts join the legs of the fuse clips. The present fuseholder eliminates this heat producing joints by forming the wing contact portion from the legs of the fuse clips. The present assembly also compensates for discrepencies in the lengths of mutually opposed contacts by providing two independently biased side strips.

    • An electrical connector for non-prestripped wires has a lower housing part (1) with wire guides, each comprising a double channel consisting of an upper introduction channel (47) having a cross-section suited for the introduction of a wire (7) and therebelow a parallel clamping channel (49) connected to the introduction channel by a constricted transition slit (51). A projection provided at an upper housing forces the wire at least partly into and through the transition slit (51) and into a recess (37) in the lower housing part (1) upon telescoping of the upper housing part into the lower housing part, thereby clamping the wire to strain relieve it.

    • A connector block for interconnecting two pluralities of wires fanned along the two opposite edges thereof is provided. The connector block has an elongate layered structure of three elements, a flat center element for supporting two staggered rows of flat, slotted electrical connectors, one on each surface thereof, and two insulating cover elements substantially coextensive, and compatible, with the center element, one on each side thereof and secured thereto for positively retaining the connectors in place. The center element is an insulator and has transversal slots in both of the opposite edges aligned with slots in the connectors for guiding and retaining wires to be inserted into the slots for establishing electrical contact therewith.

    • A solderless electrical connector is provided for use in interconnecting a plurality of insulated electrical conductors, i.e., each having an insulation covering or cover. The connector includes a housing of dielectric material having a plurality of spaced pockets, each pocket having an entry opposite a base thereof. Disposed within each pocket is an electrical contact element which has a mating portion and a plurality of termination portions. Each termination portion is provided with jaw means which form a pair of narrow passages into which a segment of a conductor is positioned. When the conductor segment is positioned within the narrow passages the insulation cover is ruptured by the jaw means and electrical contact is made. Each termination portion is also provided with conductor-restraining means which is disposed adjacent the jaw means. The restraining means frictionally engages a portion of the insulation covering adjacent the conductor segment and retains the latter within the narrow passages of the termination portion.

    • An electrical contact member formed from an axially extended tube is provided intermediate its ends with an axially extending insulation-opening slot. The slot is terminated at one end in an entry opening through the tube. The entry opening and an inwardly tapered entry ramp are formed by a free-ended piece of the tube wall bent into the inner opening of the tube. An insulated conductor may be inserted into the contact member in either of two ways: by insertion through the appropriate end of the tube and deflection by the entry ramp through the entry opening; or, by insertion through the entry opening and deflection by the entry ramp through the end of the tube. After insertion by either method, the ends of the insulated conductor may be pulled to force the conductor into a narrowed engagement portion of the slot where the insulation around the conductor is opened by spreading or cutting and electrical contact is made between the tube and the metallic conductor. The tube at a section apart from the slot may be crimped to secure the conductor after the conductor is positioned in the slot. A contact member or plurality of contact members may be assembled with insulating means to form a connector.

    • An insulated conductor is terminated in an insulation-opening portion of an electrical contact and the contact jaws are crimped over the conductor to secure the conductor therein. A tool includes a pair of cutting edges and crimping surfaces for cutting and folding over sections of the contact jaws as the tool presses an insulated conductor into an insulation-opening notch formed by the contact jaws. The tool includes a forward end having a surface for engaging and pressing the conductor into the notch, the surface acting against the conductor as a stop to limit the depth of cut of the cutting edges. The tool may also be used after conductor insertion by other techniques to perform the crimping operation. The side surfaces of the tool slidingly engage the cut edges of the contact jaws and prevent an inward movement of the jaws during cutting and crimping. The resulting electrical connection is mechanically secure in that a normally open conductor-receiving channel is closed by the peeled over sections of the contact jaws thereby preventing outward movement of the conductor. The contact structure is of particular advantage where stranded wire is used in that the clamping action of the peeled over sections prevents relaxation distortions of the conductor which has become distorted during insertion and thus prevents pressure drop at the contact jaws which can result from relaxation distortion.
