    • An electrical connector has an insulative housing with an engagement portion provided with contacts. A shield member is mounted to an exterior of the insulative housing and is connected to a circuit board. Guide posts protrude from a surface of the insulative housing for facilitating engagement of the electrical connector with a mating connector. The guide posts have tips positioned further from the insulative housing than the engagement portion. Conductive members are arranged on the tips of the guide posts. The conductive members facilitate electrostatic discharge with the mating connector and have retention legs connected to the circuit board independently from the shield member.

    • An electrical connector with a static discharge feature is disclosed. More particularly, the electrical connector includes a connector housing made of an electrically insulating material, at least one terminal in the connector housing, the terminal having a cable contact area for conductively attaching a cable for conducting an electrical signal and a contacting portion for making contact with a corresponding contacting portion in a complementary mating connector. The electrical connector further includes a conductive insert, a portion of which is exposed to the outside and covers an opening formed in the connector housing at a position between the terminal and the conductive insert, so that an air gap is formed in the opening between the conductive insert and the terminal.

    • Disclosed is a connector having a terminal which is rendered into an electrically connectable state with a counterpart terminal by engaging with the counterpart terminal; a housing for accommodating the terminal therein; and an arc suppressive member which is provided at such a position as to be electrically connectable to the terminal and rendered into contact with the counterpart terminal when the terminal is being disengaged from the counterpart terminal so as to keep on electrically connecting the terminal and the counterpart terminal. The arc suppressive member has such a construction that an amount of discharged arc when the arc suppressive member is detached from the counterpart terminal is smaller than an amount of discharged arc when the terminal is disengaged from the counterpart terminal. With this arrangement, arc discharge at the disengagement of the terminals is suppressed.

    • Provided is a pair of arc discharge suppressive terminals electrically communicable with each other by engagement of the terminal pair. At least one of the terminal pair has a final contact site which is in contact with the counterpart terminal at a final stag of disengagement of the terminal pair. At least the final contact site is covered with an arc discharge suppressive layer containing a first metal having a melting point of 1,550null C. or higher. It is preferable that the terminal pair contact with each other at a portion corresponding to a main contact site other than the arc discharge suppressive layer in a completely engaged state where the one of the terminal pair and the counterpart terminal are tightly engaged with each other. Preferably, the main contact site has a surface made of a material having a higher conductivity than the arc discharge suppressive layer. This arrangement effectively suppresses occurrence of arc discharge at a time of disengagement of the terminal pair.

    • Arcs are prevented as electrical connectors are unmated by including a long and a short contact in an electrical connector with both contacts being connected along the same line between an electrical source and a load. The short contact comprises the lower resistance path between the source and the load and so carries most of the current when the connectors are fully mated. An electronic component, such as an FET or a positive temperature coefficient resistor is connected to the long contact. As the short contact is disconnected, the electronic component initially carries sufficient current to prevent arcing at the short contact. Current through the electronic component decays rapidly so that when the long contact is subsequently disconnected, the electrical energy in the short contact is reduced below an arcing threshold.
