    • An ignitor and ignitor monitoring device is provided which is externally and detachably mounted to a high intensity discharge (HID) luminaire. The ignitor monitoring device provides a visual indication of whether or not the ignitor of the lamp in the HID luminaire is functioning. If the lamp is not operating and the indicator is activated, sufficient open circuit voltage is present to operate the ignitor, the ballast in the luminaire is most likely functioning properly, and power is present to operate the luminaire. A service person can assume that the lamp is defective and can replace the lamp as a first attempt to correct the problem with the luminaire. If the lamp is off and the indicator is also not operating, the luminaire is not operating for any of a number of reasons such as a defective ignitor, a defective ballast capacitor, a defective lamp or loss of supply voltage from the power source. A service person can replace the ignitor in a first attempt to repair the luminaire. Replacing the ignitor is the simplest initial repair option since the ignitor is externally mounted on the luminaire.

    • A lighting system, preferably for use in operating theatres, in which at least one light source is mounted to be movable an adjustable in a single ceiling and/or wall element in the form of a prefabricated module element (4). The light sources in each module element may be controlled singly or in clusters by means of a control device designed to direct the source or sources to focus at a point defined by an optical, ultrasound or magnetic, radio frequency pointer that is seen by an appropriate sensor/camera system or receiver in the room, and which, via control means, moves the light source to the desired position. The light source consists of light-emitting diodes, halogen bulbs or the end of one or several fiber-optical cables, fixed ion a holder shaped as one half of a cup or a sphere, the holder being arranges to be movable about two perpendicular axes in the xy-plane (the ceiling plane) of the ceiling module (4). The holder is attached to the ceiling element by means of a gyroscopic suspension system or a ball joint suspension system. On the top of the holder, which is at the back of the ceiling module (4), there is provided two attachment points (16, 17) offset by 90° with respect to each other but parallel to the plane of the ceiling when the light beam is directed downwards normal to the ceiling plane (xy-plane), respective linear actuators being articulated to the attachment points for reciprocating movement, so as to rotate the holder about the x-axis and the y-axis, respectively. This can also be done by use of rotary actuators, possibly mounted in combination with a gear unit, which rotate the suspension ball/holder directly about the axis of rotation.

    • Gradually lighting/dimming wireless transmission indicator lamp used in a wireless data transmission apparatus. The wireless transmission indicator lamp includes at least one light emitting diode, a wireless transceiver circuit for receiving or transmitting radio signal and converting the received radio signal into digital pulse signal and a controlling circuit having an input terminal and at least one output terminal. The input terminal is connected with the wireless transceiver circuit. The output terminal is connected with the light emitting diode. The controlling circuit is controllable by the digital pulse signal to generate a slowly varying current for the light emitting diode, whereby the light emitting diode can gradually light and dim as human breath to indicate the connection state and transmission state of the wireless data transmission apparatus.

    • A string of miniature holiday lamps connected in a series circuit with each lamp having an indicating device connected in parallel to its respective lamp. The indicating device is operated in response to the non functioning of the lamp with which it is connected in parallel. When the lamp fails, the full line voltage of the series circuit passes through the indicating device causing it to activate, signaling the non functioning lamp. The signaling device can be a resistor associated with a thermochromic paint that changes color when activated by the heat from the resistor, a sound alarm, an odor activated device or an electroluminescent light. In another embodiment the signaling device can be used to indicate a circuit having a resistive load is energized.
