    • A disconnect switch has a stationary switching portion and a movable switching portion movable between open and closed positions. The movable switching portion has a rigid first member and a second member joined to the first member at a first pivot. The second member has two rigid parts mutually joined at a second pivot. These pivots permit the members of the movable switching portion to be foldable to one side of the stationary switching portion when the movable switching portion is in the open position. The members have respective contact jaws for grasping the stationary switching part when the movable switching portion is in the closed position. The contact jaws have a length approximately half the length of the members and the second pivot divides the two parts of the second member in a length ratio in the range of 1 : 3 to 1 : 6.

    • An electrical load power control device is described that reduces the power consumption of inductive and inductive-dissipative loads, including for example fluorescent lighting. The power circuit of the invention interrupts AC power supply to the load during a plurality of intervals within each half cycle of the AC mains signal frequency whilst providing an alternate path for current flow during the interruption to maintain a sinusoidal-like current to the load. During a crossover lag zone encompassing zero crossing points of the voltage and current and during which the voltage and current have opposite polarities, both elements of the power switch are switched to the “on” condition, one element of the circulating switch is switched to the “on” condition when a positive current is flowing in the load and the other element of the circulating switch is switched to the “on” condition when a negative current is flowing in the load. The power factor presented by the load and other current parameters of the load such as form factor and total harmonic distortion may be desirably modified. In the preferred embodiment an oscillator has a duty cycle control circuit which deactivates the power switch during a predetermined portion of the oscillator duty cycle. The duty cycle establishes the amount of power reduction.

    • A non-contact electric power transmission apparatus including a power supply unit and a load unit. The power supply unit has a first oscillation circuit, a signal secondary winding, a filter circuit, and a driving control circuit. The load unit has a power secondary winding, a signal primary winding, and a second oscillation circuit. The first oscillation circuit has a power primary winding and intermittently oscillates at a first oscillation frequency. When the load unit is placed at a predetermined position with respect to the power supply unit, since signals are induced in the power secondary winding by the signals in the power primary winding, the second oscillation circuit oscillates at a second oscillation frequency which is different from the first oscillation frequency. The signals from the second oscillation circuit are transmitted from the signal primary winding to the signal secondary winding. When the signals having the second oscillation frequency is input from the signal secondary winding to the driving control circuit through the filter circuit, the driving control circuit controls the first oscillation circuit to successively oscillates.

    • An outdoor grounding section switch has a female contact and a male contact at the end of a grounding blade that can be driven. The female contact is constituted by at least one hollow tubular thimble (11, 15), housed inside a vertical tubular insulator (3) that is closed at its top end and open at a bottom end. The male contact (25) is a vertical cylinder penetrating into the insulator (3) and the thimble during closing. The open end of the insulator (3) is equipped with a metal part (14), the inside of which is provided with a plurality of radially-directed lugs (14A), facing the periphery of the male contact vertical cylinder and stopping short of the vertical cylinder to break ice accumulating off the end of the male contact during section switch closure.
