    • A chord performance training system is realized on a personal computer having a display and a keyboard in accordance with music application software. The display provides a user with three types of windows on a screen, namely a main window for displaying chord progression, a select window for displaying a list of genre names for selection and a score window for displaying a score. On the select window, the user selects a specific single genre name to activate model performance information containing chord parts, a percussion part, a chord text and a song text, so that the main window shows chord progression representing chord names and generation timings of chords which are to be sequentially played by the user. Multiple sets of model performance information are provided to suit to different levels, namely a beginners' level and an expert level, which are set to the user in playing chord performance on the keyboard. Incidentally, the select window shows histograms each of which shows a score being marked for user's chord performance out of ten grades with respect to each of the genre names, while the score window shows a highest point of score being marked for the user in the past out of a hundred. The user's chord performance is evaluated in comparison with the model performance information suited to a desired level in consideration of a degree of match being detected between a key-depression pattern and a chord pattern within an allowable time range (e.g., 300 msec).

    • For both an automatic chord correction and an automatic composition, it is required to correct a part of a series of given chords in order to have a musically natural connection between adjacent chords. A series of chords “a”, “b”, “c”, “d”, “e”, “f” (each letter means one kind of chords) for a music is selected by a user. If two chords “c” and “d” among the series of chords “a”, “b”, “c”, “d”, “e”, “f” are changed into different ones, according to the user's preference or to make them more appropriate to the motif melody, the chord “b” adjacent to the changed “c” is automatically corrected into “b*” so that both chord connections from “a” to “b*” and from “b*” to the changed “c” can be more musically natural. Similarly, the chord “e” adjacent to the changed “d” is automatically corrected into “e*” so that both chord connections from the changed “d” to “e*” and from “e*” to “f” can be more musically natural.

    • In accordance with the musical performance by the player, a musical keyboard and an associated processor generate note command signals indicative of note pitches of the tones to be produced in response to which keys are depressed and intensity signals indicative of intensities of the tones to be produced in response to how strong the keys are depressed. A tone generator generates tone signals having pitches and intensities as determined by the note command signals and the intensity signals. A judger judges whether the intensity signals are greater than a predetermined threshold value. When the judgment is affirmative, an additive note designator generates additive note designating signals indicative of note pitches of the tones to be produced in addition to the tones produced as commanded by the depressed key, in which each additive note pitch has a harmonious relation to the corresponding key-commanded note pitch. The tone generator further generates additive tone signals having pitches designated by the additive note designating signals. An alternative detector judges whether the depressed key is a chord constituent note of the chord for the musical performance at that moment.

    • A method and apparatus for performing music on an electronic instrument in which individual chord progression chords can be triggered in real-time, while various individual notes of the chord, and/or possible scale notes and non-scale notes to play along with the chord, can be generated from separate fixed locations on the instrument, and in different octaves. The method of performance involves the designation of a chord progression section on the instrument, then assigning chords or individual chord notes to this chord progression section according to the defined customary scale or customary scale equivalent of a song key. Further, as each chord is played in the chord progression section, various individual notes of the currently triggered chords can be generated from separate fixed chord locations on the instrument, and in different octaves. Fundamental and alternate notes of each chord can be generated from separate fixed chord locations on the instrument for composing purposes, and in different octaves. Possible scale notes and/or non-scale notes to play along with the currently triggered chord, can also be generated from separate fixed locations on the instrument, and in different octaves. All performance data can be stored in memory or on a storage device, and can later be retrieved and performed by a user from one or more fixed locations on the instrument. The performance data may also be performed using a variable number of input controllers. Further, multiple instruments of the present invention may be used together to allow interaction among multiple users during performance, with no knowledge of music theory required.
