    • A neonate dummy make it possible to sense or measure a movement of the head of a neonate, the values of impacts applied to the thoracic part and the abdominal part (including the lumbar part) of the neonate, and the value or magnitude of the effect on the cervical vertebrae, as well as to clarify the mechanism of cervical disorder resulting from an impact in a car crash or the like. This neonate dummy includes a head part, a body part (including a lumbar part), arm parts and leg parts. A bar-shaped backbone member corresponding to the backbone of a neonate is provided in the body part (including a lumbar part), and a neck part is formed on an upper region of the backbone member. A triaxial acceleration sensor is provided on the centroidal position of the head part. Further triaxial acceleration sensors are provided on positions of the backbone member corresponding to the upper and lower ends of the cervical vertebrae of the neonate respectively, and additional triaxial acceleration sensors are provided on the centroidal positions of a thoracic part and a lumbar part respectively.

    • A vertebral model for illustrating the alignment and misalignment of the spine is disclosed. The model consists of first and second members movably mounted to each other, the first and second members each having a longitudinal axis. The model also has a third member interposed between the first and second members. The first and second members are movable relative to each other between a first position, wherein the first and second members are coaxially aligned, and a second position wherein the first and second members are not coaxially aligned. The model also has a locking mechanism for releasably locking the first and second members in their second position. The first and second members are configured to resemble two adjoining vertebrae, and the third member is configured to resemble an inter-vertebral disc between two adjoining vertebrae. The invention permits the model to illustrate how the vertebra can be placed into and out of alignment.

    • An apparatus for measuring the effect of strangulation. The apparatus includes a model of a human having an artificial neck, and at least one sensor for measuring physical characteristics of the artificial neck during application of an applied force on the artificial neck. In one aspect, the model further includes a circulation system for circulating a fluid, and the at least one sensor includes a plurality of flow sensors to measure a flow of the fluid in the circulation system at predetermined locations and a plurality of pressure sensors to measure a pressure of the fluid in the circulation system at predetermined locations. In another aspect of the invention, the model includes a closed tube, and the at least one sensor includes a pressure sensor to measure the pressure of the air in the closed tube. The invention also includes a method for measuring the effect of strangulation on a model of a human. The method includes the steps of imparting an applied force on a neck portion of a model of a human, and measuring the physical characteristics of the neck portion during the application of the applied force.
