    • A method of developing electrostatic images comprising subjecting a surface containing an electrical image to a liquid developer having two dissimilar components, one of which is a first developer component having a polarity such that it develops the image by attracting the first developer component to the image. A bias field is maintained through the liquid such that as the image is developed by the first developer component the second developer component is moved away from the surface being developed. When the first developer has been differentially developed on the surface the polarity of the bias field is reversed to cause the second developer component to be deposited on the first developer component.

    • An improved developer for xerographic surfaces in which an image is produced without an applied charge, in which a controlled developer pigment of one polarity is suspended in an insulating carrier liquid, and a second developer medium also capable of acting as a developer, but of opposite polarity and incapable of wetting the first pigment, is used to enhance deposition of the first pigment in image areas and to shield the non-image areas against deposition of the first developer.

    • Apparatus is disclosed for electrostatic printing, including a photosensitive plate, composed of a conductive substrate having fine pores distributed uniformly all over the surface thereof and a liquid-repellent photoconductive layer coating the surface of the substrate except the part of the pores. An electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface of the photosensitive plate, and a liquid developer is applied to the back side of the plate. The developer is prevented from exuding on that portion of the plate where said latent image does not exist due to the liquid-repellent property of the photoconductive layer. Conversely, the developer is received by those portions of the surface of the plate where the latent image exists due to decrease of contact angle in that part of the image. Finally, a paper is press-contacted onto the surface of the plate to transfer the image of exuded developer to the paper by the absorbing force of the paper.
