    • A measuring system is disclosed for monitoring at least one phase of a system. A measuring module includes a signal acquisition module and a signal further processing module. The signal acquisition module is formed by an ASIC. A printed circuit board includes a voltage sensor and the signal acquisition module includes current sensors and a voltage sensor connection connected to the voltage sensor in an electrically conductive manner, for each phase to be monitored. The signal further processing module is connected to the signal acquisition module and can evaluate current and voltage values which have been determined. The signal further processing module includes, output devices which can be used to output serial data and digital signals for control purposes.

    • An eddy current probe assembly suitable for inspecting a test object with longitudinal shape, being passed through the assembly in the object's axial direction during an inspection session, the probe assembly comprising multiple probe modules being disposed in a radial plane and with the modules partially overlaying on each other forming an iris structure encircling an inspection zone, wherein a movement in unison of each of the probe modules closer to or further away from the center of the inspection zone makes the inspection zone enlarged or contracted. Spring tension is applied on each of the probe modules so that constant life-off in maintained between the probe modules and the test surface. Array of eddy current elements for each probe module and multiple layers of probe modules can be employed to achieve complete coverage of the test surface. The radial cross-sectional shapes of the test objects can be of round or polygonal.

    • A modular electricity meter configuration and corresponding methodology permits use of certain common components in combination with either a variety of mechanical displays or electronic displays. In electricity meter arrangements making use of printed circuit board or solid state technology, at least two separate electronics boards may be provided. One may constitute a standard board for basic metrology functions while the other may comprise selected implementation of various higher level functions for creating a custom design electricity meter to meet customer requirements. Different customers may be provided with differently outfitted meters by corresponding customization of the higher level function board. A unitary power supply may be provided for both boards through a fixed connector. A common baseplate includes a circuitry link through a nonremovable plug or clip for alternatively providing a tamper proof embodiment or one with exposed terminals for permitting customer testing. Physical stability and strength is provided by using tapered mounting posts and integrated snap fit arrangements without requiring any screws for assembly. A light pipe provides external output through an innercover to indicate correct meter operation. Meter data and other metered information may be output through different configurations optionally involving hardwired output, RF links, pulse outputs, and telephone connections via modem or wireless.

    • A sensor for counting rotations of a Ferraris disk in an electricity meter. The disk has a light reflecting surface carrying a broad stripe marking. The sensor comprises two IR LEDs spaced at either side of an intermediate photo-transistor adapted to receive light reflected from the disk from both LEDs. The LEDs are spaced in the direction of rotation by at least the width of the stripe. As the stripe passes across the detector, the output signal generated has characteristic shoulders on its falling and rising edges. By detecting this characteristic pattern and checking that the LEDs which contribute to the signal at the shoulder point are in the correct sequence for the normal direction of rotation, it is possible to detect false counts caused by jitter, tampering or changes in ambient light level. During production the LEDs are balanced by a calibration process so that the signal processed by the photo-detector is essentially steady, despite the switching of the LEDs when the sensor is exposed to a normal reflective surface.

    • An electric meter includes a housing, a switch positioned within an opening in the housing, a hinge pin having a first cross-sectional shape and being connected to the housing, and a switch cover having a passageway receiving the hinge pin therein and permitting pivotal movement of said switch cover between a closed position and an open position. The passageway has a second cross-sectional shape cooperating with the first cross-sectional shape of the hinge pin for locking the switch cover in the open position. The hinge pin preferably includes a generally cylindrical shaft and a ridge extending longitudinally thereon to define the first cross-sectional shape. Accordingly, the passageway of the switch cover is preferably defined by a generally cylindrical portion with a first longitudinally extending channel in communication therewith to define the second cross-sectional shape. The passageway may also include a second longitudinal channel cooperating with the ridge to lock the switch cover in the closed position.

    • A method and apparatus for metering electrical energy with a meter having a base of a given configuration is shown to include a data member, attached to the base, for providing a data signal, at least a portion of which is representative of the base configuration, and a processor, connected to the data member, for comparing the meter base configuration to a reference configuration and for providing an indication signal whenever the meter base configuration and the reference configuration do not match. If the data member generates a serial data signal of digital words, it is desireable for a number of bits in each serial communication to be representative of the meter base configuration. Such a serial data signal is achieved if an input/output expander having a plurality of inputs is utilized. In such an embodiment, it is preferred to provide digital signals representative of the meter base configuration to select inputs of the expander. Such digital signals can be provided by first and second voltage sources, representative of logic high and logic low. In an especially preferred embodiment the processor is a register having a micro-processor and a display. The microprocessor compares the data signal to the reference configuration and generates a message displayed on the display whenever the meter base configuration and the reference configuration do not match.
