    • An improvised guide rod assembly for semiautomatic firearms is provided for adjusting the tensile force on a spring internal to the firearm. The assembly included a guide member distending distally from the firearm's forward components, creates a tension in the mechanical workings of the firearm during discharge, and enhances accuracy, bullet velocity, and defensive functionality. A guide rod positions inside a firearm guide channel, protruding outside the firearm from a distal end. The guide member passes through a similarly sized and dimensioned spring. Tension on the spring transfers to an adjacent firearm slide member, whereby during discharge of the firearm, the slide member meets resistance while in motion. Using the adjustable guide rod to realize spring resistance increases, the velocity of a bullet is improved as is control of the firearm after recoil. The guide rod also serves as a close proximity weapon.

    • An improved barrel link for consistently and reliably placing a barrel of a semi-automatic pistol into battery is disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention extends the width of the barrel link beyond that of the receiving channel of the barrel lug legs so as to substantially equal the exterior dimension of the barrel lug. In addition, the portions of the barrel link extending beyond the width of the channel of the barrel lug are designed to provide multiple points of contact with the front face of the barrel lug in both vertical and horizontal positions so as to reliably and consistently place the barrel into battery. The additional width of the barrel link and additional contact between the link and barrel lug aids in stabilizing lateral and rotational forces prolonging the life of the weapon.

    • A firearm such as a semiautomatic pistol or handgun includes a barrel and a slide with a front aperture for rearward movement of the slide around the barrel during cycling of the slide between forward and rearward positions. A wire bushing is provided between the outer diameter of the barrel and the inner diameter of the aperture of the slide for positioning the barrel within the aperture during cycling. The wire bushing is a spring-like, generally round or O-shaped member (e.g., a bent metal wire) mounted within a groove provided in the slide aperture, with portions of the bushing being bent to lie out of the groove for contacting the barrel. The wire bushing reduces the tolerances between the slide and the barrel, thereby improving operation of the firearm, improves re-location of the barrel within the slide, provides for easier maintenance, and reduces mass, cost, and complexity.

    • A compensator for a handgun comprises a barrel bushing having a first end inserted into the forward end of a slide and slidably receiving the barrel, and a second end projecting away from the barrel and slidably receiving a compensator weight having an external shape which conforms to and forms an extension of the slide. A bias spring mounted in the chamber beneath the barrel has a spring rod extending therethrough, the forward end of which projects into an opening in the lower end of the compensator weight. A projection on the barrel bushing retains a spring plug, slidably mounted on the spring rod, in a position to preload the spring and normaly urge the compensator weight toward the barrel. At least one threaded member provided in the compensator weight secures the compensator weight to the spring rod to prevent the compensator weight from experiencing either axial of rotational movement relative to the spring rod. The compensator weight adds significant weight to the forward end of the handgun, and well in front of the barrel to significantly reduce recoil resulting from the firing of the handgun. The compensator weight, appearance and shape permits the handgun to be placed within and easily withdrawn from a standard hip-mounted holster. The barrel bushing increases the drag between the barrel and slide, futher contributing to a reduction in the recoil action. The mounting of the compensator weight assembly upon the handgun is simple and straight-forward and requires no modification of the handgun components and further may be easily and readily disassembled from the handgun enabling the handgun to be returned to its normal configuration. The weight compensator may also be provided with exhaust ports for enabling blast gas to exit upwardly through the bushing and compensator weight, which further serves to reduce recoil.
