    • A finishing section of a recessed wall wash light fixture has a heat conducting side wall. The inner surface of the side wall has a reflective finish. A lamp is non-centrally aligned within the finishing section. The reflective sides cooperate with the off axis location of the lamp to operate as a kick reflector to kick a portion of the light emitted outward from the fixture at high angles to illuminate a nearby wall close to the ceiling line. The finishing section functions as a lamp support, heat shield and kick reflector reducing the number of parts and complexity of assembly typical of wall wash light fixtures. The finishing section is mounted substantially within a rough-in section housing. An aperture cone section, lens, hinge and bias mechanism, and rotatable collar improve performance and functionality of the fixture.

    • A lighting system is designed to replace incandescent lighting by alternatively adapting existing recessed incandescent fixtures to accept more efficient lamps such as fluorescents, or using specially designed recessed lamp fixtures. In either case the invention addresses the problem of overheating of the on-board power stabilizing circuitry which almost universally occurs when an enclosed fixture designed for incandescent lamps is fitted with fluorescent replacements. Rather than installing the power stabilizer in the enclosure with the hot lamp, the power stabilizing circuitry is physically removed from the interior of the lamp housing and isolated at a remote position. The preferred embodiments house these electronics in a separate insulated ballast housing.

    • An improved lock used with a recessed lighting fixture is the present subject matter. The fixture is adapted for installation in a mounting aperture in a ceiling. The fixture includes a frame which has a retainer ring for connection to the outside or bottom of the ceiling. A unitary resilient lock is pivotly mounted in the frame and is also movably mounted in the frame. The lock includes a head engageable with the interior or upper surface of the ceiling to hold the frame in the mounting aperture. The head includes a curl having a lip extending outwardly from the frame. The lock includes a latch which releasably engages the frame to hold the lock in one position relative to the frame and thereby hold the frame in the mounting aperture. The lock includes an ear engageable with the frame to retain the lock in the frame during shipment of the frame to a site for installation in a ceiling.

    • A flush lighting system includes a support ring for attachment, typically to the underside surface, of a lighting fixture containment space, and a finishing ring which can lockably engage the support ring, either directly using threaded members, or by the use of raised dimples on the support ring which interfits with a groove on the finishing ring. The finishing ring preferably contains apertures and radius grooves for accommodating plaster or dry wall compound. A raised abbreviated radial width inner surface transition lies at the inner most portion of the face of the finishing ring. Inside the raised transition and extending axially is an engagement structure for mating with the support ring, through either a groove or apertures for threaded attachment against a radially outwardly existing axial surface of the support ring. The aforementioned system works well with an additional fixture engagement structure which typically lies within the lighting fixture and for which an additional holding structure provides some engagement to the lighting fixture, and particularly a structure which contemplates a fixture which mounts flush with the surrounding ceiling or wall and the finishing ring.

    • A novel energy efficient recessed downlighted lighting fixture, using a compact laterally twisted, fluorescent lamp, and electronic ballast, provides an easy to install procedure for retrofit installations. Using an integrated socket-and-ballast subassembly, the overall height is reduced so that it can find use with existing metal housings. This recessed fixture uses a newly designed energy efficient compact fluorescent lamp as the primary lighting source. This fluorescent lamp, which is a laterally twisted tube commonly referred to as a “springlamp” allows the shortest lamp known to the fluorescent lamp industry. It provides for minimal light trapping, thereby creating the maximum concentrated lighting output, and lighting distribution that is closest to the illumination supplied by an incandescent bulb. The laterally twisted “SpringLamp” is centrally positioned at the focal point of the parabolically shaped portion of the reflector to produce a collimated-like downlighted column of concentrated light that enhances the illumination efficiency when measured at the central portion of the beam.
