    • A coupling system is disclosed for coupling rotating elements such as a pairs of shafts, flywheel and a shaft, and so forth. A first hub assembly is attached to a shaft via a tapered sleeve mechanism. A flexible element is captured by the hub assembly and is used to couple one rotating member to another. The hub assembly includes a hub, a flange, and an adjusting nut that are used in conjunction with fasteners to compress the flexible element. The flange has anti-rotation features that engage similar features on the outside diameter of the hub. The adjusting nut has internal threads that engage external threads on the hub outside diameter. The flexible element either mounts directly to the second rotating element or is captured by a second hub assembly. The second hub assembly is attached to the second shaft via a tapered sleeve mechanism.

    • An elastomeric coupling system for securing axially aligned driving and driven shafts includes a pair of hubs coupled to one another by an annular flexible coupling element. The hubs are fixed to respective driving and driven shafts, and the coupling element is then secured between the hubs by anchoring assemblies. Each anchoring assembly includes anchoring members which are fixed to respective hubs by fasteners received in the hubs. The fasteners are oriented generally transverse to the aligned axes of the shafts, providing ready access for installation and servicing. As the anchoring members are secured about the hubs, axial and radial loads are exerted on peripheral beads of the coupling element to produce retaining forces sufficient to withstand considerable torsional loading during use.

    • A highly-resilient shaft coupling includes a hub for rotating about a longitudinal axis, a drive ring, a resilient ring assembly including two axially-continuous circular ring parts bearing radially on the hub. Each ring part includes elastomeric ring sectors and ring sector plates adhered to opposite axial ends of each elastomeric ring sector. An elastomeric ring sector of one circular ring part spans parts of two elastomeric ring sectors of the other ring part. A drive ring drivingly interconnects the hub and the resilient ring assembly at one axial end thereof. Fastener means secure together the ring sector plates at one axial end of each of the two circular ring parts, in a confronting relation. Passageways for cooling air extend between the ring sectors which are secure together. A coupling part is secured to one of the ring sectors at the end which is opposite the drive ring.

    • The resilient shaft coupling for connection of two coupling parts comprises at least two coupling members resilient under application of an applied torque, of which at least one is mountable on a first coupling part and at least one of the other coupling members is mountable on another one of the coupling parts, wherein the coupling members are mounted on a common connecting piece freely movable relative to the coupling parts. To provide a coupling in which the coupling parts are free from axial force loads, the outer surfaces of the coupling members facing in the same axial direction are connected to the coupling parts. Each of these outer surfaces lie substantially in a radial plane of the axle coupling, while the sides of the coupling members facing in the opposite axial direction from the outer surfaces of the coupling members connected to the coupling parts are coupled to the connecting piece.

    • An elastomeric shear shaft coupling is disclosed for connecting two rotatable shafts in end-to-end relationship. The coupling includes hubs for mounting on the opposed ends of the shafts and a flexible element extending between the opposed hubs. Clamping members and suitable fasteners are used to secure the element to the hubs for transmitting the torque developed by the driving shaft to the driven shaft. The flexible element has a bead of harder material than the body of the element, disposed within or at the margins of the element in the locus of clamping, and is reinforced with a matrix of plies or layers of a suitable fabric material.

    • A flexible mechanical coupling for torque transmission is capable of being connected and disconnected by only manual manipulation. The collar of the coupling has diametrically opposed cutouts in its sidewall for loosely receiving complementally shaped resilient locking members which in turn are held in place by a sleeve telescopically disposed over the collar. Flats formed in the shaft beneath each cutout are engaged by the respective members for locking the shaft and the collar against relative rotation. A removable roll pin passing through the shaft and the resilient members restricts axial movement between the collar and shaft. The sleeve is releasably restrained in position over the locking members by a pair of manually removable elastic bands on the collar. One embodiment of the invention provides the manual connection feature for both shafts in the coupling, while in the preferred embodiment only one shaft in the coupling has this feature.
