    • A superconducting rotating machine includes a stator assembly having at least one stator coil assembly. A rotor assembly, which includes an axial shaft, is configured to rotate within the stator assembly. The rotor assembly includes at least one superconducting winding assembly. A first and second end plate are rigidly attached to the axial shaft at distal ends of the at least one superconducting winding assembly. An asynchronous field filtering shield surrounds the at least one superconducting winding assembly. A first interconnection assembly connects the shield to the first end plate. The first interconnection assembly allows for axial movement between the shield and the first end plate but restricts tangential movement between the same.

    • Abstract of DisclosureA process is disclosed for manufacturing a lubricant composition comprising combining a superabsorbent polymer with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces. The superabsorbent polymer absorbs from about 25 to greater than 100 times its weight in water and may comprise a polymer of acrylic acid, and acrylic ester, acrylonitrile or acrylamide, including co-polymers thereof or starch graft copolymers thereof or mixtures thereof. A product produced by the process includes the material for decreasing friction comprising a petroleum lubricant containing an additive, water containing an additive, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, wherein the synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant optionally contain an additive. A process comprising controlling the delivery of a lubricant to at least one of two moving surfaces in order to decrease friction between said moving surfaces, is also disclosed. This process includes applying the lubricant composition to at least one of the surfaces. The lubricant composition in this instance comprises a superabsorbant polymer combined with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces, wherein the material for decreasing friction comprises a petroleum lubricant, water, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, and optionally an additive.

    • An superconducting electric motor is operated as a traditional squirrel-cage induction motor until the rotor reaches synchronous speed, at which point a current is trapped in a superconducting film by heating a portion of the superconducting film above its critical temperature, allowing the magnetic field generated by the stator coils to penetrate into the superconducting material and to induce a current. The superconducting material is then allowed to cool down below its critical temperature, thus trapping the current and allowing the motor to operate as a synchronous motor utilizing the magnetic field created by the direct current circulating in the superconducting material.
