    • A fuel regulating method and mechanism for a rotary throttle (barrel-type) carburetor which prevents an end-user A/F adjustment that would cause increase in fuel quantity to a level in excess of a regulated value so as to comply with the exhaust gas emissions regulations. A cylindrical throttle valve having a throttle hole is disposed in an air intake passage of the carburetor body 12, the air flow is controlled by rotation of the throttle valve and the fuel flow is controlled by the position of a fuel regulating needle, attached to the throttle valve, relative to a fuel jet port of a fuel supply pipe in the carburetor body due to axial movement of the throttle valve. A bypass passage is provided within the carburetor body to communicate the throttle valve hole and fuel jet area with the air intake passage upstream of the throttle valve. An air flow regulating needle valve in the air passage is operable to adjust the bypass air flow in the air passage to lean the pre-set idle A/F ratio from a maximum rich factory adjustment. The fuel regulating needle valve is sealed to prevent exterior access by the end-user after making the factory adjustment.

    • A carburetor has an air intake passage, a fuel passage, a fuel nozzle in communication with the fuel passage and having an opening through which fuel flows, a first valve in communication with the air intake passage and being movable between first and second positions, and a second valve in communication with the fuel nozzle and also being movable between first and second positions to vary the effective flow area of the fuel nozzle. The fuel nozzle is preferably carried by a tube fitted sealably in a bore being in communication with the fuel passage. The opening is defined by the tube and is preferably elongated, extending axially with respect to the tube. A needle of the second valve moves axially within the tube to variably obstruct the opening to control fuel flow. Preferably, a method of manufacturing the tube utilizes a circular cutting tool which plunges into the tube cutting a slit as the opening having a sharp peripheral edge for atomizing the fuel.

    • A carburetor includes a valve mechanism, and a needle jet extending in an up and down direction. Also included is a jet needle provided to a sliding throttle valve disposed in an air intake tube and inserted into the jet needle. The valve mechanism includes a valve body, which has a plate shape and which is moved by the flow of the fuel. When a motorcycle lands on the ground after the motorcycle jumps while running, the fuel-in-jet, that is, the fuel in the needle jet, tends to accelerate downwardly. The valve mechanism prevents a downward reverse flow of the fuel-in-jet on which such downward acceleration acts. The resulting configuration prevents temporary production of a lean air-fuel mixture, which may possibly be produced when the fuel in the needle jet has accelerated downwardly.
