摘要： The swirl injector for an internal combustion engine is an electronic fuel injector for a direct injection engine, either gasoline or diesel. The injector has a housing defining a fluid channel, a needle valve disposed in the fluid channel with a spring biasing the valve to a closed position, and a solenoid disposed in the housing encircling the fluid channel. The injector has a nozzle with a conical valve seat and a cylindrical discharge orifice. The needle tip is ball shaped, and the needle body has a plurality of helical grooves which are rectangular in cross section having a width to depth ratio of 1.5:1 at about a 46° angle adjacent the tip. The valve lift is 50 &mgr;m in 60 &mgr;s. The penetration, swirl speed, and pitch angle are controllable through the injection pressure, providing an enhanced fuel injector for dual mode fuel injection.

The diameters of injection orifices positioned on the spray-orifice disk are distributed such that, at a particular point of injection, the injected fuel is distributed as homogenously as possible in an injection volume of the combustion chamber, bounded by the piston and the cylinder wall.

摘要： In dual fuel engines, it is desirable to have injection of two distinct quantities of liquid fuel. Engines with these operating requirements have typically used two separate fuel injectors, or two separate nozzle assemblies, to satisfy this need. However, these systems can be rather complex and difficult to control. In addition, engineers have learned that fuel injectors having direct control have better performance which can increase engine efficiency. Therefore, the present invention addresses the needs of engines desiring injection of two distinct quantities of fuel, such as dual fuel engines, by utilizing a direct control fuel injector having a dual concentric check having separate orifices for the pilot and main injections.

Diameters of the first and second circles are different so that the fuel flow amount distribution rate of the first group of injection holes to the second group of injection holes may be adjusted to a predetermined value on target.

The pre-injection timing is set so that when fuel spray after the pre-injection is diffused in a cylinder and stratified, the stratified fuel spray is ignited by a rise in the pressure in the cylinder in association with movement of a piston from the bottom dead center to the top dead center. The main injection timing is set so that when the spray stratified by the pre-injection is burned, the fuel spray injected by the main injection passes through the combustion zone while being ignited in the combustion zone, reaches a combustion chamber of the piston, and is burned in the combustion chamber.
