摘要： A fuel additive delivery system used with the fuel system of an engine. When fuel is added to a holding tank fluid pressure is reduced at a Venturi guide. The Venturi guide is connected to an additive delivery system. When the static fluid pressure in the Venturi guide falls below a level a sucking action is initiated. This action opens a normally closed valve in a meter system connected to an additive tank. When the valve opens additive flows from the additive tank into and past the Venturi guide into a fuel holding tank for the engine.

摘要： A process and apparatus are provided for in-situ production of hydrogen (H2) by alcohol decomposition for emission reduction from internal combustion engines. Hydrogen is generated by a catalytic process for in-situ production from alcohols, either neat, or in a hydrocarbon mixture, such as gasoline. The in-situ production of hydrogen is achieved using a solid basic catalytic bed provided with the internal combustion engine. The preferred catalyst is a copper (Cu) containing layered double hydroxide (LDH)-derived catalyst, such as a Cu/Al LDH-derived catalyst. At least a portion of an alcohol containing fuel is passed through the catalyst bed to generate hydrogen gas from the alcohol substantially without producing carbon monoxide. The fuel and generated hydrogen gas is injected into the internal combustion engine. Catalytic reactions are provided at temperatures in a range between ambient and 500° C., preferably between 150° C. through 400° C.

摘要： A catalytically active surface is provided on the clean, combustion-exposed parts of an internal combustion engine that is green, has low operating hours, or is of modern, low emission design. A substrate or thermal barrier coat of high surface area and preferably capable of maintaining a surface temperature of at least 450° C. is deposited in the combustion chamber. Zirconia, silica, or lube oil ash are suitable. A catalytically active moiety such as platinum or iron is dispersed in, on, or with the combustion facing surface of the substrate. Nanophase iron from ferrocene or nanophase platinum are suitable. Catalytic action is maintained by continuously providing a low level of catalytic precursor to the engine in the combustion charge.

摘要： The invention relates to a method of combusting tallow, and particularly tallow that may be contaminated with the prion protein considered to be responsible for spreading the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) infection in cattle, in a standard high-speed compression ignition engine. The invention also extends to combustion of other animal/vegetable-based fats and oils, particularly waste cooking oils which are at risk of contamination by toxic chemicals which may potentially enter the food chain. The heat and power produced by the engine may then be used to generate electricity. In accordance with the invention, the tallow, etc. is combusted in an enriched oxygen atmosphere in the combustion chamber of the engine.

摘要： The present invention provides a flexible fuel compensation system for determining the percent alcohol content of fuel in a flexible fueled vehicle at the instance of fueling and in an open loop operating mode. According to the invention, two estimated percent alcohol content values are calculated based on the old fuel mixture's alcohol content and two fueling possibilities. A first value is calculated for the possibility that E85 fuel was added to the tank and a second value is calculated for the possibility that E0 fuel was added to the tank. If the inferred ethanol content increases above a positive threshold during closed loop operation, the system assumes that E85 fuel has been added to the tank. Conversely, if the inferred ethanol content decreases below a negative threshold, the system assumes that E0 fuel was added to the tank. Accordingly, if the vehicle is shut down before a more accurate ethanol content determination is complete, the inferred ethanol content follows either the first or second estimated alcohol content value until the system reaches a closed loop operating condition.
