    • A universal ladder lock and method for locking a ladder to a vehicular rack is provided which utilizes a mounting frame that may be secured to existing vehicular racks. Affixed to the mounting frame is a lock housing which slidably and rotatably supports an elongate lock arm. A hook is provided on one end of the elongate lock arm for hooking around a portion of one or more ladders. One or more stop elements are secured to the elongate lock arm for limiting longitudinal movement of the elongate lock arm. The stop housing also preferably provides one or more lock member supports which may be utilized to receive a locking pin, or in a preferred embodiment, a padlock. The locking pin or padlock prevents movement of the stop element affixing the elongate lock arm in a position with the hook around the ladder to thereby lock the ladder with respect to the vehicular rack.

    • A scissors lift includes a scissors arm assembly secured at one end to a base and coupled with a lift mechanism that expands and contracts the scissors arm assembly. A platform is supported at an opposite end of the scissors arm assembly via a plurality of load sensing pins that detect a vertical load on the platform. An interface module receives signals from the load sensing pins and communicates with the lift mechanism, wherein the interface module controls operation of lift functions and the lift mechanism according to the signals from the load sensing pins. Preferably, the load sensing pins are sized substantially the same as the conventional pins they replace. As a consequence, no redesign or additional structures are necessary to install the load sensing system and provide a safe operation of the scissors lift machine.

    • An adapter to permit a ladder to placed in an operating position on a vehicle, wherein the vehicle acts as a base for the ladder. The adapter is engaged to the hitch of the vehicle. The adapter includes a first removable shaft that is slid through a tubular rung at the bottom of the ladder. The adapter includes peripheral devices. One peripheral device is a tether that is engaged between the vehicle and the upper end of the ladder. The tether includes a ratchet mechanism for shortening and lengthening the tether and for changing an angle of the ladder relative to the ground. Another peripheral device is a second removable shaft for being slid through an upper rung of the ladder and for being engaged by the tether. Still another peripheral device is a leg for being placed between the adapter and the ground to minimize the chances of the front end of the vehicle from being raised when a user is on the upper end of the ladder and when the ladder has been extended.

    • A vertically adjustable safety railing system for obtaining safety railing access to the tops of mobile equipment of various heights such as tank trucks. The safety railing apparatus generally includes a plurality of posts, a railing, and activating means in communication with an actuating means. The safety railing having a collapsed condition and a vertically upright condition. The posts are pivotally mounted to mounting plates as well as connected to the railing so that when the posts are rotated to a vertically upright condition, the railing is elevated providing a railing to assist a person walking on top of the tank of a truck. The activating means is engaged by a cover plate hinged to a ladder disposed at the rear of the tank truck. Opening the cover plate to access the ladder places the activating means in a passing condition and actuates the actuating means to pivot the railing system to its upright condition. Closing the cover plate places the activating means in its normally non-passing condition and returns the railing system to its collapsed condition.

The front bracket portions have a front bracket length, and the first struts have a first strut length. When the first step assembly is placed in a storage orientation, the first step portion is placed in registration in a nested relationship with the second step portion. In addition, a third step assembly (42) can be connected by additional hinges to the first step assembly and can be folded around the second step assembly when in a storage orientation.
