    • A bridge for aiding in setting tile on a surface above a fireplace including a pair of horizontal elongated guide bars and a pair of vertical elongated support bars, each guide bar and support bar having an elongated slot, the guide pair bolted together through slots providing a single guide bar. Each end of the single guide bar is bolted to near an end of a support bar by a fastener through the slots so that the bridge is formed. In use, the bridge is positioned at the entrance to the fireplace with a lower end of each support bar supported on the floor of the fireplace. The single guide bar is positioned along the top edge of the entrance and a first course of files is set against a front surface of a wall above the fireplace with a lower edge of each tile arranged parallel to and along the horizontal edge. A marker clip is snapped onto the guide bar and moved along to position each successively laid tile.

    • A process for pouring and finishing a concrete slab having a predetermined thickness. Concrete forms are arranged to define the periphery of the slab. Each form having a recessed top wall which serves to provide a support area for a temporary extended border portion of the slab with the border portion having a thickness less than the predetermined thickness of the slab. Concrete is poured within the area defined by the forms to a height determined by the upper edge of the form. The temporary extended border portion of the slab being supported by the recessed top wall. The concrete slab is surface finished across the top surface thereof, extending outwardly at least to the inner most portion of the temporary extended border portion of the slab. After the concrete has hardened, the forms are removed along with the temporary extended border portion as by cutting through the concrete along an inner vertical surface of the concrete forms.

    • A technique and apparatus for retrofitting the concrete elements using external prestressing is presented. The method is more applicable in columns with rectilinear cross-section. This technique increases the strength and ductility of the reinforced concrete elements without significantly increasing the dimensions or weights of these elements, or even harming the concrete section. The technique is simple, easy to use, and does not need special hardware in rectilinear cross-sections. In addition, the technique reduces the lateral strains, internal cracking, and volume increase when adding more loads on the concrete element. Global external prestressing is provided along the whole length or the required part of the element to be strengthened through a set of elongated members using the special apparatus presented hereinafter.

    • Roofing brackets include a first leg that can be attached to vertical members of a roof structure and a second leg that extends at an angle from the first leg and can be attached to horizontal members of the roof structure and/or to a support surface. A first leg of each bracket is formed with a plurality of preformed patterned holes with a second leg of each bracket being formed with a plurality of different sized holes. The second legs of a first set of brackets being attached to a roofing substrate with the first legs of the first set being attached to lower ends of vertical roofing support members. The first legs of a second set of brackets being attached to upper ends of the vertical support members such that the second legs of the second set of brackets have a desired angular orientation angularly offset with respect to the vertical support members. The second legs of the second set of brackets then being attached to a horizontal roofing support member.

    • There are advantages to installing roof insulation in industrial and commercial buildings from above, rather than from below after the roof is sealed. A reinforced facing sheet is used that is rolled out between purlins. This facing material is used to support the insulation from below. The facing sheet is anchored to reduce pillowing of the insulation. The anchoring system for the facing material comprises a metal angle, firmly affixed to the top of a rafter between purlins. The facing material is sandwiched between the angle and the rafter, and anchored. A channel-shaped lower support member is located beneath the facing material and the angle is pressed, from above, into the open part of the channel shape as it is situated on top if the rafter. Consequently, the facing material is also pressed into the lower support member, thus holding the facing material at the correct elevation.
