    • A riser support system for use in a body of water comprises a buoyant and ballastable support structure and a plurality of substantially vertical and rigid risers each of which is attached to the inside of the support structure at a location below the center of buoyancy of the support structure and below the surface of the body of water. Usually, each riser passes through the inside of a single tube in the support structure. Typically, the riser support system is used to support a plurality of risers and their surface wellheads inside the hull of an offshore platform, usually in such a manner that the axial movement of the risers and support structure is independent of the axially movement of the hull. By attaching the risers at a location below the center of buoyancy of the riser support structure, riser load adds to instead of decreases inherent stability and therefore the structural payload efficiency of the overall floating platform is improved.

    • The invention is an apparatus, method and system for supporting risers in a floating platform. The apparatus comprises a table disposed above a hull-top surface, a first riser opening in the table, and a first dedicated riser tensioner attached to the table and disposed about the first riser opening. The apparatus further comprises a second riser opening, and a second dedicated riser tensioner attached to the table and disposed about the second riser opening. The method comprises tensioning a first riser with a first dedicated riser tensioner, and tensioning a second riser with a second dedicated riser tensioner, wherein the first dedicated riser tensioner is responsive to the second dedicated riser tensioner. The system comprises means for tensioning a first and a second riser, wherein the means for tensioning the first riser is responsive to the second riser.

    • A connection between a riser and a receptacle of a floating platform may be preloaded to reduce fatigue. The platform has a receptacle with upper and lower grooved profiles. A hanger is connected to the upper end of the riser. The hanger has a latch that engages the lower grooved profile in the receptacle to resist downward pull of the riser. A tieback connection inserts from above into the receptacle. The tieback connection has an outer member that lands on the hanger. The outer member has a latch that engages the upper grooved profile. The tieback connection also has an inner member with a set of internal threads. Threads on the inner member engage threads on the latch, rotating the inner member relative to the outer member exerts an outward force on the tieback connection latch. As the latch is pushed into the tieback grooved profile, a downward preload force is created, which passes to the hanger latch. In another version, radial preload is provided by a deflectable lip that engages the receptacle below the hanger latch.

    • An in-ground lifting system and method are provided that is operable for raising a structure and its foundation at least several feet. In one presently preferred embodiment, the method is utilized to raise the structure above any anticipated flood levels to thereby prevent future flooding of the structure. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of excavations are formed underneath the foundation, such as with a hydro-excavator. A sleeve with seal members and hydraulic lines is installed and aligned within each excavation. Hardenable material is poured outside the sleeve to form a cylinder. Hardenable material is poured inside the sleeve to form a piston. Fluid is pumped through the hydraulic lines to lift the structure and the foundation.

    • The present disclosure relates to an air-can, riser tensioning device for use in the production of oil and gas at offshore locations. The riser tensioning device includes at least one air-can used to place a vertical force on the riser. The air-can including an open port that extends into the water toward the sea floor to a depth sufficient to prevent water from entering or air from leaving the air-can during its upward and downward vertical movements while in use. The present disclosure also relates to a novel manufacturing method for fabricating air-cans out of one material and fabricating the open port out of another material. The open port's material being made from a material that is more corrosion resistant than the material the air-can is fabricated from. The disclosure also relates to a novel manufacturing method for fabricating a passage in one soft tank for fluid communication with a second soft tank, and connecting the second soft tank with the passage.
