    • A combined running and guard rail for high speed rail ground transportation having a center running rail and inner and outer guard rails on opposite sides of the running rail and vertically overlapping and normally spaced from ends of a flanged wheel on the running rail. By limiting lateral movement of the adjoining wheel in either direction, the guard rails and those of the counterpart rail at the opposite side of the track cooperate to prevent the flange of either of a pair of axle-connected wheels from riding up on the adjoining running rail under excessive lateral forces developed at high speeds. Grooves in the combined rail between the running and guard rails limit contact of the wheel to the running rail in normal operation over the range of permissive wear of the running rail.

    • The invention relates to a rail with a continuous support in the rail trough of a steel construction or by concrete slabs and the like, attached therein by means of a two-component embedding material. In order to be able to achieve high cost-effectiveness during laying and a safe operation with a long service life of tracks, it is provided according to the invention that the rail is embodied as a grooved rail with a running head (1), a guiding head (2), a web (3) and a rail base (4), has a greatest height (A) with respect to the support area (40) of the rail base (4) of more than 10.1 cm, but less than 14.0 cm, a width of the running head (1) of essentially 5.1 cm to 6.3 cm, and two fishplate recesses arranged on both sides of the rail web (3), whereby the fishplate recess facing the guiding head with respect to the cross section of the rail has a width (D) of the planar basis of at least 1.64 cm.

    • An automatic stabilizing unit for a free trolley and a load carriage in an inverted power and free conveyor system is connected to the free trolley. The stabilizing unit includes a stabilizer actuator which extends above a free track containing the free trolley from beneath the floor of a building which houses the conveyor, and a stabilizing gear mounted on the load carriage. At locations in an assembly plant, such as robotic welders or riveting stations where load shifting tolerances are critical, there must be additional stabilization of the load carriage. At these locations, stabilizing rails are positioned on top of the free track in line with stabilizing trucks on the stabilizing actuator. When the stabilizing trucks contact the rails, the trucks are urged upward, pushing an attached piston upward against a spring which causes a pair of stabilizing wheels on the stabilizing gear to rotate downward into contact with the factory floor, thus stabilizing the carriage only when needed.

    • A rack-rail assembly for a mining machine has a pair of relatively long rail sections longitudinally generally aligned with each other and having respective forked ends juxtaposed at a joint location. A relatively short link at this joint location has at each of the forked ends an outwardly projecting pin that engages in elongated holes of the forked ends so that limited relative longitudinal displacement between the rail sections and the link is possible. This link has at least two teeth and each of the rail sections has a plurality of teeth, so that when a mining machine travels along the rail assembly thus formed variations in tooth spacing at the joint location can be compensated for. A damping or spring member is provided between each of the rail sections and the link, normally urging them apart.
