    • A compact multilevel paper making machine is provided comprising a web-receiving region where a web of paper is received on a fabric forming a continuous loop, a reel-up for winding the paper web onto a roll, and a web transfer point disposed between the web-receiving region and the reel-up. The fabric receives the web at the web-receiving region and then supports and transports the web from the web-receiving region to the web transfer point in a first direction on a first defined vertical level. At the web transfer point, the web is separated from the fabric. The fabric loop further includes a return run from the web transfer point to the web-receiving region over which the fabric then travels. A cleaning section is also disposed along the return run of the fabric loop for cleaning the fabric. Following separation from the fabric, the web is transported to the reel-up in a second direction, generally opposite to the first direction, and on a second defined vertical level different from the first defined vertical level. The second defined vertical level may be either above or below the first defined vertical level, wherein a defined vertical level may comprise, for instance, a floor of a building. Dryers are also provided before and/or after the web transfer region for drying the web and are accordingly disposed on the different defined vertical levels. Thus, by configuring the paper making machine to transport the web between different defined vertical levels, a compact multilevel paper making machine having a small footprint is provided for limited-space installations.

A hood subjected to an overpressure is assigned to the suctioned apparatus and is arranged to support an underpressure effect of the at least one suctioned apparatus. The process includes guiding the fibrous material web and the carrying belt through the elongated pressing nip, and supporting an underpressure effect of the suctioned apparatus by creating an overpressure in the hood.

    • The invention relates to a twin wire former for the production of a fiber web specifically a paper, cardboard or tissue web, from a fiber suspension. The invention is characterized in that the rotating forming roll has an open volume and is a non-suction type; the rotating forming roll has a forming roll diameter of less than 1,400 mm; the rotating forming roll has a forming roll angle of wrap of less than 70°; a forming suction box is located immediately downstream from the rotating forming roll as viewed in direction of wire travel; and in the area of the wedge-shaped inlet nip, the fiber stock suspension has a stock density of between 0.4% and 2.0%, preferably between 0.6% and 1.5%. These characteristics result in an improved forming quality and web quality.

    • A through-air drying paper making apparatus is provided comprising a twin-fabric forming section, a water-removing section arranged downstream of the forming section, and a web transfer device disposed between the forming section and the water-removing section. The forming section includes a forming roll, a pair of fabrics guided to travel about a portion of the circumference of the forming roll, and a headbox operable to deposit a slurry between the fabrics so as to form a paper web therebetween. Preferably, one of the fabrics in the forming section comprises a through-air drying (TAD) fabric arranged to carry the paper web through the water-removing section, while the other fabric comprises a forming wire. At the web transfer device, the paper web is separated from the forming wire and the paper web then carried on the TAD fabric through the water-removing section. The water-removing section includes at least one through-air dryer for at least partially drying the paper web. Most preferably, the forming section and the web transfer device are arranged such that the forming wire and the TAD fabric, with the paper web sandwiched therebetween, travel along a substantially straight and relatively short path between the forming roll and the web transfer device, thereby resulting in minimal directional change of the paper web after formation thereof about the forming roll and prior to separation of the paper web from the forming wire. An associated method is also provided.

    • A paper machine for manufacturing a structured soft paper web are described, which machine has a wet section, a press section, a drying section and a web-carrying clothing running around a suction device close to a smooth impermeable belt in the press section for the creation of a transfer point. In accordance with the invention, structuring means for structuring the web are arranged between the press section and the drying section. The structuring means comprise either said clothing in the shape of a permeable wire, the structure of which is made up of depressions and arched surface parts, including knuckles in a quantity of 25-150 knuckles per cm2, and a suction device that, at a vacuum of 40-80 kPa, draws the web to the structured side of the wire so that the web acquires the structure of the wire, wherein the wire operates at a speed less than or equal to the speed of the belt, or a creping doctor that is located in a space between the belt and the clothing and in scraping contact with the belt so as to loose the web during simultaneous crinkling, the suction device having a suction gap for initial suction of the web firmly to the clothing for transfer to a drying cylinder. The web-carrying clothing operates then at a speed that is less than the speed of the belt.
