    • The invention disclosed herein relates in general to improvements in automatic and manual stopping of fly shuttle looms. The invention discloses a mechanical means for detecting late shuttle arrival at the throat of the shuttle-receiving box and brake means with associated linkage for quickly stopping the loom shocklessly. This system is operated by the linkage automatically tripping a quick-disconnect element unless a sensor in the path of the fly shuttle is displaced at the proper time. It also discloses linkage associated with a filler break detector of the same type as, and in combination with, the late shuttle detection system, to quickly and shocklessly stop the loom upon thread breakage. Also disclosed is a hydraulic and springoperated energy absorption apparatus to aid the loom''s normal braking system when a stop is desired. By means of a novel linkage, this apparatus is caused to engage the loom drive wheel upon either a manual or automatic stop signal being given. Additionally, the disclosure teaches a system for ensuring that on manual stops the loom will always stop at the same position in its cycle. This system is disclosed as either using the linkage of the first two stopping means or a similar system. There is also disclosed an electrical system for providing controlled loom stoppage in the event of an electrical power failure.

    • A weft thread monitoring device comprises a carrier element, such as a push rod, that is moved in one direction relative to the loom frame by beating-up motion of the reed and is biased in an opposite return direction. A feeler that is carried for bodily motion by the carrier element and is movable relative to it has a sensing arm that is engaged by a weft thread during beat-up and a controlled arm cooperable with an actuator for a cut-off switch. The feeler is biased relative to the carrier element towards an actuating position in which its controlled arm can engage the actuator during return motion of the carrier element and move the actuator to stop the loom. However, if the sensing arm is held captive by a properly laid and beaten-up weft thread, the feeler is maintained, against its bias, in a position in which the controlled arm clears the actuator during carrier element return motion, and at the conclusion of such return motion the sensing arm is snapped out of engagement with the weft thread.

    • The invention disclosed herein relates in general to improvements in automatic stopping of fly shuttle looms. As applied to a loom which is arranged for protection stopping responsive to detection of a late shuttle condition prior to arrival of the shuttle within the shuttle receiving box, the invention discloses improved mechanical sensor means for detecting late shuttle arrival at a detection point adjacent the entrance of a shuttle-receiving box, equivalent sensor means adjacent the entrance of an oppositely disposed receiving box, and interconnecting linkage means arranged such that when contact of the moving shuttle with one of the said mechanical sensor means causes the said sensor to move from a position within the shuttle flightpath to a position without said flightpath, the oppositely disposed mechanical sensor is caused to move from a position without the shuttle flightpath to a new position within the shuttle flightpath. A clutch quick disconnect element of improved design is also disclosed, together with a novel campositioned stop link assembly selectively engageable with the shuttle sensor interconnecting linkage means to cause release of the clutch and engagement of the brake when shuttle action is faulty. A primary benefit of the invention is the providing of shuttle flight-sensing means entirely separate from and independent of shuttle boxing means. Also disclosed is a fill thread detector of novel design which provides means responsive to absence of fill thread to cause loom stop by creating interference to prevent normal functioning of the shuttle sensor interconnecting linkage.
