In the transfer zone between the two transport surfaces (S1) and (S2), the first nonwoven is preferably kept against the surface of the transfer element (20) by means of suction. Application: production of heavy condensed nonwovens, especially having a weight of more than 80 g/m2.

    • The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for manufacturing of a nonwoven. In order to be able to cost-effectively produce a nonwoven, which is to a great extent isotropic in machine and cross direction, a double-layer web is produced according to the invention by one single web forming device, where the one partial web consists of mainly lengthwise oriented fibers and the other partial web laid in zigzagnullthe cross-fiber partial webnullconsists of mainly crosswise oriented fibers. The primary fleece for the cross-fiber partial web is taken off the web forming process at a several times higher speed than the fleece of the other, slower partial web. Both partial webs are redirected and oriented to each other in such a way, that they can be brought together to form a double-layer complete web. This double-layer web produced in a cost-effective way is then bonded to form a nonwoven which is to a great extent isotropic.

    • Apparatus for forming an air formed, reinforced fibrous web has a form member on which fluent fibrous material is deposited in an air formed deposition process. The fibrous web may be used as an absorbent core of an absorbent article. The form member has a forming surface which is shaped and arranged to contact and support a reinforcing member, such as a web of scrim. The forming surface is particularly formed to locate the reinforcing member at the proper position within the thickness of the fibrous web. No additional locating structure is needed and the reinforcing member can be placed on the forming surface prior to entry into the forming chamber where fibrous material is deposited onto the forming chamber. A form and a method for making a reinforced fibrous web are also disclosed.

    • A fiber sliver producing apparatus includes an arrangement for making a running fiber web and a web gathering device which has a plurality of walls defining an inner space through which the fiber web runs in an advancing direction. The walls are stationary during operation of the apparatus. The web gathering device has a web gathering portion causing the running fiber web to converge and a web densifying portion, situated downstream of the web gathering portion as viewed in the advancing direction, for forming a running sliver from the web. The web densifying portion has an outlet opening of cross-sectionally rectangular outline and an opening width which is at least five times greater than the opening height. Upon discharge through the outlet opening, the sliver passes through cooperating rolls of a calender roll pair defining a bight in which the outlet opening of the web gathering device is disposed.
